Seattle - not drawing as well as advertised but still 4000+ - ok for now with private ownership
Which seem the safest franchises? |
More like 8,000+ and so far I see them as the safest franchise.

Also, with a potential new arena being built in Las Vegas, it's only a matter of time before the Maloofs move the Kings to Las Vegas. |
I have no doubt that this is a part of the Maloofs arena struggle. The Monarchs are a casualty of them wanting to show the city that they're serious about potentially leaving the city without a team.
I don't see the Kings staying in Sacto for much longer.

I think the Sun is the model franchise by which Orender wants to build on. Loaded financially and totally independent from the NBA, because Orender knows that the WNBA can't lean on the NBA for much longer. It's like the NBA is saying that we got your here; now it's time for you to help yourselves with what we've given to you. The Sun has done that and Orender's hoping that the other teams in the league will follow suit.
If they don't.... |
For who to help who? The Sun doesn't have money because of the team, they have money because the owners have a casino. What does Orender want the rest of the league to do? The Sun, Fever, Stars Libs, Lynx, Dream, Mystic's and Sky need to do what the rest of the teams have done, win a 'ship.

That we are going to see a dispersal draft - Kara Lawson to Minnesota, please, for some true veteran leadership - and she won't even have to play point. |
If they have #2 pick, they better take Powell |
I'd take Powell. In a heartbeat. Would she want to come here? |
Lawson is a free agent she will not be part of the dispersal

How did that work out for the Comets, Shock and Monarchs?

If Mohegan Sun is not making money off the Connecticut Sun (and I mean making money, not simply breaking even) then the rest of the league is in deep, deep, deep shit.

The same goes for me.
Have you called the Kings ticket line to let them know how you feel?

Hell they don't even have to win it all, just not sucking and being in contention would help in Minnesota. I mean do you folks even get how bad the Lynx sucked before snagging the three good rooks a couple years ago? Think about it: The second best player on the team was supposed to be Nicole Ohlde in 2007. Players that are now at the far end of the bench on other teams were Lynx starters. It was so bad that we cheered A GOOD PASS. You know, one that got from player A to player B relatively quickly and without a deflection. We had Seimone Augustus and nothing else.
The league needs most of the teams to be in the hunt, to be competitive and to show athleticism on a nightly basis. Most of the teams, not like three a year. Only a few weirdos like me are willing to pay to watch a bad team predictably lose night after night.

My personal opinion is that the W will let the Monarchs fold, announcing that funding in Oakland was not raised in time.
I believe there will then be a dispersal draft for the remaining 12 teams in the league (6 in each conference).
The league will then decide to allow teams to carry 12 players, 1 being inactive.
This would make for the most competitive the league has been in a while.
Draft picks would move up simply eliminating Sacramento (1-Minnesota, 2-Connecticut, 3-Minnesota, 4-Chicago). |
This is realistic, let the league shrink a little and become more
competitive... but I don't think its gonna help........

Wow. A year. Weird thing for me is when I heard about the folding of the Monarchs I just kind of lost alot of interest in the league in general. I went to Styx games but didnt travel to other teams. Watched the games via Access but not with the passion of past years. Same thing happened with the Comets but not as much as you could almost predict that happening the previous year. Monarchs fans were so intense and hated to see the that team fold.
