Huge draw. Just how big a draw is Wie? She pulled in an eye-popping $22,000 from one Texan who bid for the right to play with the first-time LPGA winner during the LPGA Tour Championship Pro-Am event, according to GolfChannel.com’s Randall Mell.

Michael Maggi, the winner of the bid to play with Wie -- technically the right to be the first to choose a pairing partner -- believed he would have to write a hefty check. But the winning proffer was big, even for Texas.

“I was thinking maybe $50,” Wie jokingly told Mell after she watched the bidding mania.

Good cause. Maggi’s dough paid for his entire foursome and benefited the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital’s orthopedic services division. LPGA pro Stacy Lewis underwent spine surgery for scoliosis at the Hermann Hospital, Mell noted.

It's too bad she can't continue, but it's the wise move. There is no fan benefit to watching her gimp around playing less than her best.

So with Wie out of the mix, I'm struggling on who to root for.

I guess K-mac is the highest of my favorites on the leader board.

I suppose between Ochoa and Shin Jiyai for POTY, I'd like to see Shin win it. I think she's the most talented Rookie to come along since Se Ri Pak, and Pak never won POTY, she's in the HOF. It's not easy being the best player on tour when you have never seen any of the courses before.

But the player, if she is there on the board on Sunday, I'd like to see win it would be Reilly Rankin.

When she came out on tour I thought she would be a top tier player. It hasn't worked out that way. She does have at least one top ten every year which shows great potential, she just has not broke through yet.

The kid has been through a lot herself. While playing at the University of Georgia, diving into a lake, she broke her sternum and back in three places and went through two years of rehab. She came back from that and helped lead Georgia to a NCAA title.

I heard on GC yesterday that her mother was just diagnosed with cancer and has no insurance. So if Reilly is there on Sunday, I'm behind her 100%.

Just to add some closure. The LPGA championships was about POY. It was so close, unprecedented really. The LPGA has a points system for POY, no subjectivity. It was between Shin Jiyai and Ochoa, and it came down to the last shot. Actually it was at 17, Ochoa hit her first shot in the bunker, par 3, left her shot in the bunker but saved bogie. Shin was watching on the tee, I saw her lips, read them, "kiss it goodbye". How about kiss of death. She bunkered and bogied, Ochoa birdied 18, and Shin just missed holing a chip that would have won her POY. Ochoa wins by a single point.

The tournament was won by Anna Nordqvist with a final round 7 under 65 which included a 5 straight birdie run. Anna won the LPGA championship, a major as her first win earlier in the year. She plays the ball the way I love to play it, left to right, blocks out the left side of the course, call it Lee Trevino golf, but when you have this game going, you don't make mistakes tee to green.

The above combined with Wie's win the LPGA is primed for a big year. Damn shame the tour has shrunk and we won't see that much of it in 2010 Evil or Very Mad
