Cam,
Your story and mb's were much better. I mean, I actually felt sorry for the girl, and you just don't feel sorry for her, she's Adrian Williams Wink

Glad you liked the story. Watching MB tell Adrian that G-d told her to rebound was hysterical. Adrian responded, "Did he actually say that?" and she acted dead serious.

Adrian knew better than to wear sandals to Marjele's after games after that incident in 2003.

PostPosted: 02/14/05 11:02 pm    ::: Catholics & Valentine's Day Reply Reply with quote

St. Valentine's Day has not been a Feast Day in the Catholic Church since 1969. It was dropped from the official calender due to the lack of clarity over its origins. It was not even mentioned when I went to Mass this morning. The Church openly admits to Valentine's Day's Roman origins, as it does with other days. For more info, check http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/ValentinesDay/

Also, most of the Valentine's Day advertising I saw this year was from Kay Jewelers and Russell Stover, not Kansas City's Hallmark.

Much love,
A Catholic in Missouri

i understand that. i wasn't referring to its present-day meaning, but rather its origins. most of the christian religious holidays were timed or constructed to co-opt pagan celebrations. that has nothing to do with the present day catholic church, or any other christian denomination, but rather the efforts of a fledgling order of power to assert its control over an otherwise unruly population. the result is a syncretic though still overwhelmingly christian set of holidays and celebrations.
