The Crimson Tide's Athletic Director has written a letter to 50,000 football fans who booked hotel rooms in Tuscaloosa for this weekend's opener against Middle Tennnessee. He asked them to cancel their hotel reservations and give up their rooms so as not to displace refugees from Alabama, Mississipi, and Louisana.

"The human tragedy as a result of Katrina is staggering and I know Crimson Tide fans will do what they can to help those who are not able to immediately return to their homes," Moore said.

Alabama's Student Recreation Center is also serving as a Red Cross shelter for hundreds of evacuees.

Nice story. The Tide AD deserves a lot of credit for making this request. Just hope the fans will take heed.

This is one of those times where I feel kinda stupid geting caught up in sports. Guess it's also a time when almost all of us know folks affected by the tragedy.
