NBA Commissioner David Stern is expected to name Donna Orender, the PGA Tour's senior vice president for strategic development, to replace Val Ackerman as president of the WNBA on Tuesday.
Orender, who has worked with the PGA 17 years, was an All-American basketball player for Queens College in New York. Orender was also an All-Star in the Women's Professional Basketball League, a precursor to the WNBA from 1979-81.

Following the 2004 WNBA season, Ackerman said she would officially step down Feb. 1 but has continued to work until the league named a replacement.

Stern said last week when announcing the WNBA would expand in 2006, adding a Chicago franchise, that he expected to name Ackerman's replacement within a couple of weeks.

Uh, ok then...how is the PGA Tour better promoted and marketed than the WNBA (this is an actual question)?
What's her experience working with women's sport?
More importantly, with so many names with actual ties to the WNBA, why pick an "outsider"?
Or maybe that was the idea...I'll wait and see...
But she totally needs a makeover there...

at first blush, looks as if she's done something right.

from businessweek, while admitting a current slump: "Indeed, golf has drawn so many new fans that it stands second only to the NFL in total TV viewership. The pro tour is cashing in: TV revenues for the PGA were on pace to climb nearly 42% this year, to roughly $230 million -- more than four times the payout from just a decade ago."

then there's the pga's own promotional material, about tv coverage, which seems to be her baliwick:

BUT, and it's a big but, the commish will have a lot of 'splainin' to do about augusta.
