Cherelle, of course, began with the greatest production duo in music history Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. My favorite Cherelle song is "Everything I Miss At Home."

I have a new favorite cover. It's Alanis Morrissette covering the Black Eyed Peas "My Humps".

That is great! Laughing
I only just 'discovered' it today so I wondered if anyone had mentioned it in this thread. Sure enough, here it is. Must've missed it when you posted it before, P.

It's in the same vein as Ben Folds' cover of Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit", serving to demonstrate the banality of the original artist's work. In the Black Eyed Peas case, everyone already knew they were just making songs to shake your ass to rather than consider seriously.

Well, I never Alanis would sink so low, but I gotta admit it's kinda cute.

Fionna Apple and Amy Lee's covers of "Sally's Song" (Both of them did a cover)

Jim Stugress's cover of "Something"
Evan Rachel Wood's cover of "If I fell in Love" (Actually I love the whole Across the Universe soundtrack, but those two are my favorites)

Well, obviously I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston. I love the original version by Dolly, but Whitney just whips the song and says "you're mine!".

Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Do Weird Al songs count? Laughing Laughing

They're easy to confuse. Laughing I actually had a "I hate..." post on this thread and then deleted it because I realized it was in the wrong one.

Two fascinating covers I heard this year...

Randy Travis turns Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" into a country toe tapper, complete with fiddle solo. Around the Bend, Travis' first non-gospel album in many years, is solid, classic country.

Maiysha took a stab at Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer". She amply demonstrates three things I've said about that song for years.

1: It's a very dirty song, and doesn't try that hard to hide it.

2: It's a really stupid song.

3: It would have never been a hit without that video.

1. Lucy Kaplansky's cover of "More than This" (Roxy Music)

2. The Watson Twins cover of "Just Like Heaven" (The Cure)

and

3. Diana Krall's cover of "A Case of You" (Joni Mitchell)

Syesha Mercado (American Idol) did a remake of Fantasia Barrino's I Believe (which was written by Tamyra Gray -- who I still think is the best contestant to ever step foot on the AI stage) and Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You. They're both on the AI CD.

I don't really like her rendition of I Believe as much as Fantasia's -- although Syesha overall has the better voice, she just doesn't do the song with as much passion or emotion (the overall music is different, as well) -- she does do it very, very well. She actually comes close to matching Alicia Keys in If I Ain't Got You.

I heard a live version of Tom Petty's "Free Falling" by John Mayer.

Really good.

Elton John's Pinball Wizard was excellent. He also did a great cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Just for the pure shock value, Joan Jett's cover of Love Is All Around (the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song) was pretty impressive.
