AWWW!!

Thanks for taking me back there, Krush. I'm all fuzzy inside now. Very Happy

They really should put the 84 Olympics on DVD.

That was a funny ass quote from the announcer on Mary Lou: "What a tightly-wrapped package of explosives."

You're welcome, Sass! I think you share the same passion for the Olympics as I do.

The Olympics are badass. I can't freakin' wait.

I had a huge crush on her and Khorkina and I have no problems saying that.

Summer Olympics: For some reason I don't remember the 1992 olympics, I don't remember the 1988 olympics because I was only 3.
*1992- Dream Team
*1996 - Kerri Strug and the Magnificant 7
*1996 - Gold for softball, basketball
*2000 - the Hair incident with LJ and LLL that also makes me laugh everytime Laughing
*2000 - Cathy Freemen. She was awesome to watch gold and lighting the cauldron.
*2004 - Michael Phelps.
*2004 - May/ Walsh winning beach volleyball gold
*2004 - Mike Candrea leading the Softball team to another gold medal, only 2 months or so after his wife died suddenly.
*I could list so much more but won't

Winter Olympics
2002 - Opening ceremonies and bringing in the flag from the World Trade Center in the same condition that they found it.

Gawd, I am so ready for these olympics...So glad I have a DVR!!!! Gonna do the happy dance when they start.
Very Happy :

Is she blonde? Because there was a woman on the Russian gymnastics team who was pretty and had this really haughty look all the time. Every time we'd see her, we'd imagine her saying, "I'll have gold, or I'll have nothing!" and we'd laugh hysterically. Very Bette Davis or Joan Crawford kinda haughty.

My fave moments -
The archer lighting the torch in Barcelona.
USA Women's Basketball winning all those games in 1996, and starting all of this
Michele Timms kissing silver in her final Olympics, in her own country
The Opening Ceremony of the Salt Lake City Winter Games (my boss's daughters skated in it)
Pretty much all of the Athens games - awesome they returned to their birthplace
Keri Strug
Mark Spitz
Munich - I'm old enough to remember
Dawn Staley carrying the flag in Athens

Summer Games:

Stupid Jimmy Carter boycotting the 1980 Summer Games.

Mary Decker being tripped by Zola Budd in 84. The lack of class shown by Decker afterwards, made me lose all respect for her.

The Romania gymnastics team winning the gold in 84. They won with class and showed it.

Winter Games:

Do you believe in miracles?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Dan Jensen finally not choking and winning an Olympic medal.

Michelle Kwan choking at each Olympic.

I can't agree about Kwan choking at her first Olympics . Her programs were beautiful....she throttled Lipinski at the US Nationals just the month before. Her Olympics program was unbelievable as well, but the judgest just decided to award Lipinski for doing some extra jumps. But I'm biased!!! Laughing

I used to hate Michelle Kwan, because I thought she was cocky, but I did always feel bad for her when she choked. Embarassed Laughing

Oh yes. I think it was about 3 actual pictures, but she was in various stages of undress. It was a Playboy after all.

Thought I'd come over here since that seemed to be the direction folks were pointing for entries.. Laughing Here are a few that popped into my head first, I could probably go on but these are the things that were my first reactions..

I'll echo the memorable opening ceremonies moments the Barcelona archer and Ali in Atlanta - I was in tears.

Michael Johnson in Atlanta - echoing again the sentiments - I was speechless. It hadta be the shoes...

Atlanta's the year of the woman - the emergence of the softball, soccer and basketball teams.

Miracle on Ice for sure

Eric Heiden in Lake Placid

Echo again, Dan Jansen skating for his sister...and when he finally actually won. I again was in tears each time.

Torville and Dean in Sarajevo - speechless AND in tears, that was freaking phemonenal.

The Jamaican bobsled team Smile

Ditto on Tina Thompson's reaction - that game still sits on my TiVo for that alone.

Ditto on Eddie the Eagle Smile

Not a favorite but a memory that is seared in my brain although I was young when it happened, but I to this day vividly remember Jim McKay's announcement about the Israeli Olympic team in Munich.

Also not a favorite but a lingering memory for just how ridiculously the whole situation kept compounding Tonya Harding in Lillehammer.

Al Oerter stopped to light his cigarette on the torch. At least that's what I heard.

Brent Musberger called them "black-skinned storm troopers". Yes, that Brent Musberger.

For this moment of truth, these men gave up their medals. No steroids, just world-record speed.

The world has, indeed, changed.

Any time Edwin Moses raced.

Well, of course, you love that. Moses always ran his best in Eugene! What most don't realize is that Moses' 13 steps between each hurdle, start to finish, is a still unparalleled feat. He was a scholar of every aspect of his event, and combined physics with technique in a way that most athletes are incapable of, even now that they're professionals with support staffs.

Edwin Moses was at the cusp of the amateur-professional transition in track and field. He should have been wealthier than any NBA player, and more famous than Beckham.
