New Jersey? Question Shocked

Quote:
(1) Moorestown, N.J.,
(2) Bainbridge Island, WA,
(3) Naperville, IL,
(4) Vienna, VA,
(5) Louisville, CO,
(6) Barrington, RI,
(7) Middleton, WI,
(8 ) Peachtree City, GA,
(9) Chatham, NJ and
(10) Mill Valley, CA

http://money.cnn.com/best/bplive/?cnn=yes

Hey, what do you know, Mill Valley is adjacent to my home town of Tiburon Idea The only real difference between the two is that if you prefer an ocean view (as opposed to a view of mountains and forests), and if you own a boat, you live in Tiburon Razz Arrow

Quote:

10. Mill Valley, California
Home prices in Mill Valley are nearly as breathtaking as the views from nearby Mount Tamalpais. For $800,000 you get a teardown. Dotcom millionaires and power couples in the film and music industries are flocking to what not so long ago was a hangout for artists and reformed hippies just 14 miles from the Golden Gate.

Yet most residents are interested in maintaining the town's low-key, back-to-nature atmosphere. Think fleece and flip-flops, not fur and stilettos. For those working toward that first million -- not counting real estate -- downtown San Francisco is a 30-minute commute.

Louisvillle, Colorado is an interesting choice. I spent half a day there Saturday. The old, perfectly maintained downtown is fabulous., but otherwise, I'm not quite sure what the appeal would be. I'll take Boulder anyday.

Two towns is Jersey? Think I'll pass.

Bainbridge Island, WA is another odd selection... One, because of this:

Quote:
Of course, island living isn't for everyone. You can drive to the Olympic Peninsula via bridge, but people rely on the ferry, and the isolation can be tough on teenagers.

Another because the people who picked it obviously haven't been there in the winter Razz

I spent 2 months in Princeton, NJ, this year. Great little town. It was listed at #15. I am actually thinking about taking a course at Princeton Un. at some point. The nightlife ain't bad either Wink

I know Naperville quite well, and any list that has it at No. 3 I can't take seriously.

Ick.

So, professor c, were those jersey tomatos??

My town is #66. No doubt because they say that it has ONE movie theater in a 15 mile radius!

#7 Middleton is just adjacent to Madison. It's a real growing community.

clearly, the devil is in the details. but i could do a lot worse than mill valley or bainbridge island. (i think bainbridge is where michael douglas' character lived in the movie "disclosure," with demi moore.) i lived near vienna, va., when it was up and coming, and i can't imagine it's any less dull than it was when it was just a road crossing. but if the prototypical bedroom community is your cup o' tea . . .

East coast just isn't for me. Really though, I reckon paradise is where you find it.

Bainbridge is beautiful, but there's no cultural diversity there, the winters suck ass, and the houses are completely unaffordable.

My guess is that the diversity and housing costs will be common to all of the listed cities. It certainly describes Peachtree City.

Ditto Naperville. Along with a 1:1.5 person to SUV ratio.

Ok, now I'd like to see a list of the top 10 "safest" places to live. Low crime and affordable. Or is there such a place?

What's up with all the hatin' on Jersey? I go on vacation to Wildwood every year and I love it. Granted, I think North Jersey isn't the safest/cleanest/nicest place, but the Jersey shore is BEAUTIFUL.

According to FBI stats: NYC is the safest big city. So for all the NYC haters...take that! Wink

Here in Tiburon, pretty much every person owns a luxury SUV.
-But a lot of people own Toyota Priuses too Shocked
-And it's usually owned by the same person who has an SUV. Razz
-And it's usually not just that person's 2nd vehicle... more like their 3rd or 4th and their 5th is a boat or a horse.

I thought San Jose was the safest city, but maybe that was last year...

There are eight million people living in New York City.. If something has a ONE in a million chance of happening to someone, it happens eight times a day there Exclamation

If safety is your primary concern, check out Hawaii... I mean, if somebody robs you, where are they going to run? They're on an island!

Not sure what you mean, but next time I'm in downtown Tiburon, I'll take a picture of the parking lot... You'll see for yourself Razz ...You know only 60 Lamborghini SUVs were made for the whole world. 2 of them reside here... and they're actually driven too (!), so you wonder what else they have in the garage...

The last time I was at Princeton was for a Cornell/Princeton Ice Hockey game (the only sport that's popular in CU since they're the best at it in the Ivy League).

The University certainly is a nice place... but as for the town, I didn't see much of it. It was the end of January, freezing-ass cold outside, and I had homework to do Razz Nice libraries, but I think Cornell's squirrels are better... Princeton's were a bit scrawny.
