Shocked
Quote:
Pokey Chatman, who resigned last March as LSU's women's basketball coach amid allegations of improper relationships with a former player, plans to take a job coaching a professional women's club in Russia, WAFB-TV reported Thursday night.

The station reported that Chatman would join the Spartak Moscow Region team.

Chatman's California-based agent, Eric Weisel, did not return a phone message left at his office. Reached by phone at his home, Chatman's father, Douglas Chatman, said he could not confirm that his daughter had agreed to join Spartak.

Amazing. I hope the rumor is true. It seems like a great opportunity for all involved: the players get to learn from a great coach and Chatman receives a second chance, coaching some of the best players in the world, no less. I hope they stream some Spartak games over the net this year.

Not that I've been offered a job, but am I the only one so creeped out by rumors of the owner's past that I couldn't accept employment from him? Am I just a victim of propaganda?

I'd like to think rumors (and they are just that rumors) wouldn't deter me from seeking employment when I need a job but, I respect what you have to say Very Happy

The 411 on Shabtai von Kalmanovic.

http://freemarketsports.blogspot.com/2007/05/russian-womens-basketball-and.html

I also came accross some interesting quotes from LJ on LaurenJackson.org

http://members.iinet.net.au/~chylld/quotes.php

Quote:
LJ on Shabtai von Kalmanovic - "He flew Beluga caviar in for breakfas. He's unbelievable. I can safely say no other owner in any other country or even here calls us just to say 'Hi.'" (Seattle Times, June 2)

Lastname make searching hard and confidence in what you find harder to come by.

Not sure it the convictions for being a spy that bother me as much as the activities alleged in Sierra Leone.

I certainly don't have the resource for separating fact from fiction for activities happening at this level. Just think the unresolvable doubts would disturb my peace of mind. I'm pretty sure it's somewhat a personal quirk.

I'd be happy for Pokey if this is true. Might as well make some money, Pokey, same as the players that seem to have no qualms at playing for this owner.

Wait, does he call them here?

The man certainly spoils his girls...didn't he buy Sue, Diana and LJ diamond rings.. Shocked

I think they might be able to forget about his past..

I get the same uneasy feelings about him too. It walks like a duck and sounds like a duck ... so I keep a healthy skepticism about how he makes his money.

That's not to say I think the players should boycott him, they have to make the best decision for them. But I'm sure it's easier to shrug off the doubts when you're being showered with the benefits.
