Former Connecticut and WNBA star Rebecca Lobo helped bring women's basketball to national prominence over the past decade.

But nothing can top her latest delivery.

Lobo and husband, Steve Rushin, a columnist for Sports Illustrated, have become parents for the first time. The couple welcomed daughter Siobhan Rose Rushin on Christmas Day, Lobo's due date.

The baby clocked in at 8:11 a.m. at Hartford Hospital, all 7 pounds, one ounce and 19 inches of her. Lobo says the couple has never been happier even though sleep has been hard to come by.

"A good night's sleep is a pipe dream," she said. "I'd take a so-so night these days."

Awww, squee. Congrats to the couple.

Siobhan Rose... such a lovely name. Although they had better be prepared for years of people not knowing how to pronounce Siobhan.

This is under the premium stuff, so I don't know if you can access it w/o a SI subscription. It is Rushin's Air & Space column in the 1/10/05 issue. Best of luck to the new family!
