IMO:

1. Team USA's gold
2. Taurasi as #1 pick and ROY and the increase in Mercury marketability (web hits, shirt sales, etc.)
3a. Holdsclaw leaves the Mystics
3b. Alana Beard turns around the Mystics and proves what an elite player she is
5. Parity hits the league, as the Sun barely survive the division before moving to finals
6. Storm wins the championship; three champions in three years
7. Lauren Jackson in Black & White. If any pub is good pub...this sure was pub!
8. Whalen and Ohlde out perform expectations, and lead their teams successfully into the playoffs.
9. Private ownership in CT turns in two consecutive playoff berths incl. conference championship and is rewarded with the All Star game. Will this lead to more private ownership?
10. Val resigns; significant to the people that know the league, but outside of WNBA fans, does anyone know who Val is? They sure know Taurasi though.

The Monarchs knocking The Sparks out of the first round was huge.

in Minnesota, the story of the year is clear. Whalen. And it's not just the WNBA Story of the Year here -- it's the sports story of the year.

In a year when Johan Santana won the Cy Yound and Kevin Garnett won the MVP, Whalen was named Sportsperson of the Year.
