From the tape:
"Remember, the National Football League is the most highly visible sport on the planet,'' Reynolds says....
"You do something controversial, you say something controversial, it will have an impact on this team. So remember, be mindful of your actions."
Maybe Reynolds should have thought a little more about what was written in the script, before continuing with it.

Yes, if he meant football as in soccer, he might have a point...as for American Football, the planet couldn't care less.
It's all about the Superbowl commercials!

From the article:
"Reynolds says he's interviewing for another job, but insists he's not being pushed out the door."
Linda Cohn just reported on Sportscenter that he was fired. Guess that isn't literally the same as being pushed out the door.

I'm even more glad that L.A. doesn't have an NFL team.

This all reminds me of a line I heard back in the 70's, when I was a young feminist, hearing Gloria Steinem for the first time at a concert hall rally where you had to pay for a ticket to get in...
When discussing the prevailing cultural battle women were facing at the time, she summed up the entire scene in America calling it...
THE GREAT AMERICAN JOCKOCRACY!
As a sportsfan, I suppose I should have been offended, but those words ring so true when you hear about ridiculous incidents like this one in San Francisco. It is as has been already written here...they need to take some of their own advice.
