They just don't really believe that Maryland won the Natty, do they? (Defeating Carolina in the semifinal to do it, not to mention handing UNC its only regular season loss, and at UNC no less.) And is returning all five starters.....

Agreed. Maryland has EARNED the title of preseason favorite, not North Carolina. When you blister through the NCAA tourney and don't lose anyone, how can you NOT label them as preseason favorites?

I'm sure Frese is laughing about it as is the team. Brenda's only job this year will be to keep the team motivated enough to keep playing at an extremely high level. There's nowhere to go but down for them this year.

But not having them preseason #1 is a joke.

Unfortunately, Athlon doesn't give a shit about which team won the NC last season. Those who follow college basketball know that the Florida Gators return all five starters (Noah, Horford, Brewer, Green, and Humphrey...in order of importance) from its NC team YET is ranked #2 in Athlon's poll. Who's ranked #1? North Carolina.

Athlon = POS publication

The only thing that magazine got somewhat right are the All-Americans (though not necessarily the right teams).

I still don't get why Vandy is ranked so high on some of these polls...

Baylor ahead of UConn? I just had a good laugh...

I think if Liz Sherwood can be a factor this season Vandy might be able to make some noise.

This is only an opinion. Arrived at by committee. What do you expect? A camel is a horse designed by a committee, as some would say.

Here is my prediction: The final top 25 for 2006-2007 will look very little like this one. Some of these teams will be on that final poll, and some won't. But hardly anybody will wind up where this poll has them listed. I also believe that to be true about all polls, but especially the preseason polls. That, my friends, is why they play the games!
