ESPN's is the first one to be announced.

Caitlin Clark is POY. Juju Watkins is FOY. Dawn Staley is COY. AA team is:

Brink
Bueckers
Clark
Hidalgo
Watkins

This is the first time I can recall that two freshmen made a five-player AA team.

All American Teams

First, I like narrowing the candidates that really make sense.

I am going to do my best to field three teams here. So candidacy will start with the most important players from the most successful teams. Then I will transition to individual stat category super performer regardless of team rank. That gave me a field of 50 players.

1 - South Carolina - Kamilla Cordoso
1 - South Carolina - Te-Hina Paopao
2 - Iowa - Caitlin Clark
2 - Iowa - Hannah Stuelke
3 - USC - Juju Watkins
3 - USC - Rayah Marshall
4 - Stanford - Cameron Brink
4 - Stanford - Kiki Iriafen
5 - Texas - Madison Booker
6 - UCLA - Lauren Betts
6 - UCLA - Charisma Osborne
6 - UCLA - Kiki Rice
7 - Ohio State - Jacy Sheldon
7 - Ohio State - Cotie McMahon
8 - LSU - Angel Reese
8 - LSU - Aneesah Morrow
8 - LSU - Mikayla Williams
8 - LSU - Flau’jae Johnson
9 - Notre Dame - Hannah Hidalgo
9 - Notre Dame - Maddy Westbeld
10 - UConn - Paige Bueckers
10 - UConn - Aaliyah Edwards
11 - NC State - Aziaha James
12 - Oregon State - Reagan Beers
13 - Virginia Tech - Liz Kitley
13 - Virginia Tech - Georgia Amoore
14 - Gonzaga - Yvonne Ejim
15 - Indiana - Mackenzie Holmes
16 - Kansas State - Ayoka Lee
17 - Oklahoma - Skylar Vann
18 - Colorado - Aaronette Vonleh
18 - Colorado - Jaylyn Sherrod
20 - Utah - Alissa Pili
21 - UNLV - Desi-Rae Young
22 - Syracuse - Dyaisha Fair
23 - Creighton - Lauren Jensen
25 - Fairfield - Meghan Andersen
NR - Villanova - Lucy Olsen
NR - Buffalo - Chellia Watson
NR - Wofford - Rachael Rose
NR - Arkansas State - Izzy Higginbottom
NR - Colorado State - McKenna Hofschild
NR - Florida State - Ta’Niya Latson
NR - BYU - Lauren Gustin
NR - Oregon - Philippine Kyei
NR - Eastern Illinois - Macy McGlone
NR - Drake - Katie Dinnebier
NR - Kansas - Taiyanna Jackson
NR - Siena - Elisa Mevius
NR - Iowa State - Audi Crooks

I am going to do three teams. I am going to require a post and a lead guard for each team and beyond that I am going to let the chips fall where they may. I am going to do my level best to balance statistical performance and team success. I say this up front not having selected anyone yet.

Here we go…

FIRST TEAM ALL AMERICA

Guard - Caitlin Clark
Forward - Juju Watkins
Guard - Hannah Hidalgo
Forward - Cameron Brink

Okay, so here’s the first layer of drama. Who is the fifth player. I’ve seen each of the above players play. I can look at their stats and their teams’ performances and I don’t waiver. Here’s who I am considering and a touch of why:

Liz Kitley - points, rebounds, blocks, success
Angel - points, rebounds, success
Aneesah - points, rebounds, steals, success
Madison Booker - points, assists, success
Georgia Amoore - points, assist, success
Lauren Betts - rebounds, blocks, success
Kiki - points, rebounds, success
Kamilla - rebounds, blocks, success
Reagan Beers - points, rebounds, blocks, success
Paige Bueckers - points, steals, blocks, success
Dyaisha Fair - points, assists, steals

Ignoring drama and hype, I am focused on a smaller group from this group.

Liz Kitley, Angel, Aneesah, Reagan, Paige.

If you look at the success of each of these players, they are hard to discern against each other. About five losses a piece (when you take out games these players didn’t play).

LSU beat Virginia Tech, so I’m dropping Liz.
All of Oregon States key wins were in conference. I’m dropping Reagan.

I am narrowing to Paige and Aneesah - I think her defense and shooting range make her more valuable than Angel.

I am selecting Paige Bueckers!

SECOND TEAM ALL AMERICA

Forward - Aneesah Morrow
Forward - Angel Reese
Post - Liz Kitley
Post - Reagan Beers
Lead Guard - who???

I would have filled that last spot with Kamilla Cordoso, Kiki Iriafen, or Lauren Betts but I need a guard.

I have four candidates for lead guard - Jacy Sheldon, Madison Booker, Dyaisha Fair and Georgia Amoore.

I am picking Dyaisha due to her defense and 3 point percentage in addition to her scoring.

THIRD TEAM ALL AMERICAN

Post - Kamilla Cordoso
Post - Lauren Betts
Forward - Kiki Iriafen
Forward - Alissa Pili
Guard - Madison Booker

HONORABLE MENTION

Georgia Amoore
Jacy Sheldon
Aaliyah Edwards
Yvonne Ejim
Lauren Gustin
Kat Dinnebier

This is who I think will make the 10-player WBCA team and AP 1st and 2nd teams:

Madison Booker
Cameron Brink
Paige Bueckers
Kamilla Cardoso
Caitlin Clark
Hannah Hidalgo
Elizabeth Kitley
Angel Reese
Jacy Sheldon
JuJu Watkins
Possible Spoiler: Reagan Beers, Lauren Betts or Mackenzie Holmes

Third Team:
Beers
Betts
Holmes
Yvonne Ejim
Last Spot: one of Aziaha James, Dyaisha Fair or maybe Skylar Vann

eyevolley, no Mackenzie Holmes even 3rd team? She was 1st team AP last year...there is an extremely small chance the same voters will leave her off altogether.

I love IU. I love Mackenzie.

At some point, I just fall to being slightly underwhelmed by IU’s season and think that the other posts had better or comparable seasons statistically with better success.

I probably failed not putting her on HM but I did my best to be thorough and remove personal bias and she fell by the wayside on the AA front for me.

This team could probably win Gold at the Paris Olympics - unless Canada and Brazil want their players back. Razz Laughing
