The exclusive negotiating rights of Rebekah Gardner were traded from the Chicago Sky to the New York Liberty.

And NY gave up two second round picks (‘25 & ‘26) for her. Gardner not expected to play until next year due to recent ACL injury.

Many teams do not have a high value for second round picks. Especially a team that has championship talent on their roster. New York believes they will be competing for a championship over the next several years. Those second round picks will be at the bottom of the second round.

Yeah, how many end-of-2nd-round picks turn out to be better than Gardner?
How many are even still on a roster after 1 season?
Doesn't feel like a lopsided deal to me.

Correct. #25 overall, which would actually be 3rd round today.
Charde Houston was #30 in the same draft.
Not saying it's impossible to get someone useful with a lower pick, but history says that the odds are heavily against it.

NY has the right to swap 1st rd picks with Phoenix in the 2025 draft...So they'll get a pick in the 6-10 range...However, if DT/DG has down years the NY could be looking at a lottery pick.

Will the Libs select Osborne with their first round pick as most reports have predicted? Or did Muhl make a stronger impression in the final four to see her stock rise?

Either player would be a good choice. Both players are better defenders than their two starting guards.

I would like the Liberty to think about Marquesha Davis - she gives a bit more size and athleticism in the backcourt than Muhl or Osbourne. Higher pro ceiling.

Looks like Laney could miss the upcoming season due to pregnancy.

Is there any chance Gardner could be healthy for some of the seasons?
I don’t know how long the recovery period is for an Achilles tear, but if the Liberty were aware of Laney possibly being pregnant it makes the Gardner, Burke and Davis moves make more sense.
Also unless she is already committed to Dallas and the paper work isn’t finished why haven’t we tried to sign O. Sims?
Also also if Laney is out looking at the free agent list it might be worth a camp invite for A. Gurantes, K. Charles or E. Westbrook idk

If true, a big loss for the Lib. They need someone to defend on the perimeter.

I've never claimed to be any good at parsing players' social media, but I see no particular evidence that it's true. Her only post in recent weeks is of her appearance as the player representative at the announcement of the league's partnership with a contraceptive pill company, so I guess it'd at least be ironic... |

She had a pic on her stories the other day that could be seen as appearing pregnant. OTOH it could have been a trick of the outfit and the angle.
