Since they are in the SF Bay Area, I would not be surprised if the team will go after players who went to Cal and Stanford. Especially Stanford.

There's very little evidence to suggest players attract extra fans based on where they went to school and none of those college teams draw large crowds of their own. Get the best players you can and win, that's what will bring the fans.

Golden State Wonder? As in Wonder Woman (a legendary 'Warrior'), but also keeps the W format from Warriors, and the abstract noun style so many teams have favoured in recent times (wonder as in wondrous). |

The public face of the Warriors ownership, Joe Lacob, declared they will win a championship within five years. How likely is that for an expansion team?
Seattle - started in 2000 and won a championship in 2004, their 5th year.
Detroit - started in 1998 and won a championship in 2003, their 6th year.
Minnesota - started in 1999 and won a championship in 2011, their 13th year.
Indiana - started in 2000 and won a championship in 2012, their 13th year.
Chicago - started in 2006 and won a championship in 2021, their 16th year.
Washington - started in 1998 and won a championship in 2019, their 22nd year.
Orlando/Connecticut - started in 1999 and have yet to win a championship
Atlanta - started in 2008 and have yet to win a championship
Portland - folded after 3 years without a championship
Miami - folded after 3 years without a championship

I think they absolutely will. They will attract top notch free agents. I see them going the Liberty path, get a #1 pick, assemble a respectable 8th seed roster and then attract top notch free agents and then they’ll be in the finals.

Golden State Warrior Queens - get the best drag queens for halftime shows. They can base their logo on the Warrior Queen movie set in the king/queendom of Dahomey.

Warrior is a gender-neutral term and women can be warriors just as much as men, so I would love to see the new team not use some kind of feminized contrivance of the name.

Only if they start calling the men's team the Gentleman Warriors.

Reminds me of Centenary, whose men's team are the Gentlemen. For a long time the women's team was the Lady Gentlemen.

Actually, after seeing the movie, I find the "Warrior Queen" name to be powerful, emphasizing that when you train a group of women as warriors, they can be very effective.

I’m going to politely say that all of these suggestions are terrible! Kidding. Seriously though, it’s hard as fuck to thread the needle with getting a team name right. I always picture what it would sound like from an announcer…
“Let’s here it for your Briiiiiiiiidge”
“This Valkyrie team is known for their defense”

Well, yeah, all the good names have been done to death. There's a reason there are so many Eagles and Tigers and Bulldogs across the sports world.

We'll get used to the 'bad' name really quickly, anyway. Lots of people hated 'Dream', but now it's just part of the fabric of the league. |

I recall people being distinctly underwhelmed by "Sky" as well.
As long as they don't do something egregiously bad like "Starzz" they'll be ok.
