My weekly column is back, covering all manner of random stuff from around the WNBA every week. Starting off with Gabby Williams and Prioritization, time off bonuses, Alyssa Thomas being smart, lineups leaning small, and Veronica Burton playing quarterback.

Yes, we Liberty fans got Kayla Thornton as a "throw-in" on the trade. How profoundly lucky we are!

Any column space for next week about the mechanics of Indiana trying to get Gabby Williams to sign an offer sheet by July 1st? |

Has there been any indication anywhere that the Fever might be trying to do that? I suggested it a while back but I haven't seen anything about it potentially being a reality.
On a separate note, I forgot to update the links here the last two weeks, so...
Week 4, on the league already separating into tiers, what's wrong with the Mercury, decisions facing Dallas, and more: https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/wnba-dissected-2023-week-4-tiers-mercury-wings
Week 5, on what FIBA and the WNBA could learn (or steal) from each other, how international tournaments should inform Commissioner's Cup improvements, and what Brionna Jones's injury might mean for her and the Sun: https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/wnba-dissected-womens-eurobasket-2023 |

No, but it seems like the only way of Gabby pushing to get her restricted free agency over with this year. Seattle would probably be content to just hold on to her rights for a few years at this point. |

Let Gabby live the rest of career in the European sunshine 🌞.

I totally agree about the travelling call when the ball hits the floor .01 seconds after the foot moves. Drives me crazy and totally disrupts the flow.
I'm curious how the FIBA refs handle the bulldozers - those like AT who get their points by barrelling into defenders and getting 90% of the calls to go their way?

Has A.T. ever tried to bulldozer over K. Brown or McCowan?

I can't claim to have paid specific attention to those sorts of plays/players, but Thomas has been very successful with USK in Europe, and with Team USA since they finally picked her, so seems like she does okay under FIBA rules/refs. |

re: the Sun. Could they drop Dixon and pick up someone who could actually play in the post rather than sit on the bench?

I don’t exactly believe she is a huge fan of shot-putting from the free throw line.

There are many needy teams but only four lottery spaces.

Yes indeed, and Phoenix needs to think carefully about this whole being competitive post-all-star game tradition of theirs, because they risk giving up their valuable lottery balls if they keeping playing good basketball.
