https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/36246762/las-vegas-latest-potential-mlb-team-move-oakland

From the article:

"After years of failed attempts to find a new ballpark location that would keep them in Oakland, the Athletics announced Wednesday night that they have signed a binding contract for land in Las Vegas where they intend to build a new ballpark for the team.

The agreement signals that the franchise, which has been in Oakland since its 1968 move from Kansas City, intends to relocate to Vegas in the near future -- but there are plenty of questions to answer."

Questions the article explores:

—Are the A's officially moving to Las Vegas?
—What details still need to be figured out?
—What's the timeline for this move?
—Why Las Vegas?
—Will they be the Las Vegas A's -- or are we looking at a potential name change?
—Was this move inevitable?
—Does a relocation speed up their timeline or boost the budget for putting together a winning team?

I'll try to answer some of these.
--Yes, the A's are moving to Las Vegas. A team won't enter a binding land deal without and then enter a stadium deal if plans to move aren't solid.
--Details would be where the A's play after 2024 when their lease expires at the Oakland Coliseum. They could do 1-year extensions like the Raiders did or move to Las Vegas for 2025 and share a stadium with their AAA Club until the new one is ready.
--Las Vegas has money, is a fast growing city, nicer weather than Oakland and there really isn't much in the way of sports competition for $$ during the summer.
--I feel it was inevitable. City and team had 20 years to get this right. The team is willing to spend nearly a billion on a Vegas stadium but weren't willing to do the same for one in Oakland.
--As for the name, I would assume it would be the Las Vegas Athletics like the team has always been and the owner has said as much, but that's a detail up in the air.
--Once the team is settled into their new stadium in Las Vegas in 2027, revenues will be huge in comparison to what they were in Oakland and you'd expect payroll to show that.

Vegas is willing to pay $500M towards a new stadium and Oakland isn't.
