NCSt pounded Syracuse yesterday largely by using their significant height advantage to dominate in the post. Hobby and Baldwin combined for 30 points at center and Baldwin was 7-7 shooting. NCSt also dominated the rebounding 41-23.

They won't have that kind of size or rebounding advantage against ND, so I suspect today's game will be more guard/wing-centric. Which will raise a serious question of how the presumably Miles-less Irish will hold up at guard without their leader and without much depth or experience.

NCSt is also missing its point guard Diamond Johnson for the ACC Tournament. Like Miles, she was her team's scoring and assist leader, and they missed her a lot in losing to VT and Duke at the end of the season.

Good points, Art. One thing that people may overlook with Miles is her awesome rebounding presence, primarily on the defensive end. While Notre Dame was a much better rebounding team than NC State during the season, I hope that advantage isn't negated with Miles on the bench.

I thought it was comical that the talk panel babbled on between games about how great NCSt played in the paint yesterday without ever mentioning the height disparity. It's like because they could dominate inside against Syracuse they could obviously do the same against Stanford or SCar.

It's just sloppy and a disservice to their viewers. And yes, Muffet is on that panel.

Well Notre Dame really struggled offensively in the second quarter. Way too many turnovers and 1-and-done possessions.

They only scored 11 pts.

But, their zone gave NCSt fits and NCSt had no adjustment for it. They only scored 4 pts in the quarter.

So ND now leads 25-22.

BTW, after all the talking-head nonsense of how NCSt dominated Syracuse in the paint yesterday, today against an opponent with actual post players, Hobby and Baldwin have combined for 2 pts and 3 rebounds in in the first half and ND is outrebounding NCSt 21-13. 6'4" Baldwin's major contribution has been to get 5'10" Jenna Brown charged with two offensive fouls.

With 4:30 left in the game, NCSt calls timeout with Notre Dame leading 57-46. Citron has 23 pts and 8 rebounds so far.

1:34 to go, ND up 61-53 with the ball, but this isn't over yet.

ND is running click, NCSt is ending up fouling.

Now 63-53 with 1:22 to go.

Timeout ND with 63-56 with 53 seconds.

Don't understand that. NcSt waits till there's 38 seconds and THEN fouls Citron. Waisted tim.

Going down to the wire. ND timeout, with the ball and a 6 pt lead with 28 seconds.

Now they just need to make their free throws.

Dumb ass play by Ebo. Made free throw by Bransford and in the battle for rebounding position ( with no rebound) Ebo shoves a NCSt player in the back.

Dead ball foul called, in the bonus, so Saste gets the 2 free throws and then inbounds the ball.

But NCSt is equally brain dead on its possession and the game finally ends with a 66-60 ND win.

Citron is soooooo good. I can't wait to see where her career takes her. How is her 3 point shot? She will need one of those to be elite in the W.

Great games by Citron and Westbeld. Hope the team isn't too gassed tomorrow. Citron played 38 minutes today, Bransford 39, Westbeld 36 and Prosper 31. Niele really only went 6 deep. The posts played 27 (Watson, who fouled out) and 24 (Ebo (4 fouls). The only scholarship players left both played 2 minutes, with Nat Marshall getting elbowed in the eye by friendly fire (Prosper) and leaving the game. With Miles and Mabrey out, Notre Dame has only has 8 players left and Niele really only trusts 6.

Can you imagine if Prosper hadn't enrolled early?

At least the Irish have enough time between games in the NCAA tournament, but the ACC tourney is going to be tough.

Citron actually has the highest 3 point percentage on the team: 45.1% (46-102) before today.

And after all the buildup about how great NCSt's post play was against Syracuse, today Hobby - 4 pts, 1 rebound; Baldwin - 2 pts, 4 rebounds.

Quite a difference when you don't have a 4 or 5 inch height advantage on your opponent.

BTW, Ebo had 8 pts and 6 rebounds, Watson added 5 pts and 1 rebound.

Westbeld and Citron combined for 19 rebounds and ND won the rebounding battle 39-29.

She is. And we love her. Loved her before she got to Notre Dame from her work on the U17.
