Yep, somebody's getting their first "L" today. It'll be interesting to see how each of them handles their first NON-cupcake of the season. Razz

This could be a wild game.

Oregon scored the first 7 pts of the game, then UNC scored the next 8.

Now it's 12-10 Ore leads after about 6 minutes

Definitely a game of spurts and lulls. Tarheel defense is a bit more consistent, but Ducks seem to have more creative scoring power.

Oregon up by 10 early in the 3rd. Their freshmen are showing up big time.

And at the end of 3, it's UNC up 1.

I really like that Isai freshman for Oregon. Very impressive.

They're going to have to find a spot for her in the starting lineup.

Agree, Isai should be in the starting lineup. I predict she will be soon enough or at least be getting starting minutes. Gray was more highly rated but not as impressive...though I think she does provide some defense.

After they were tied, Oregon opens an 8 pt lead, then UNC goes on a 20- 7 run to take a 5 pt lead.

Push off by Oregon and lot of drama by Kelly results in foul call. Kelly makes both FT for a 7 pt lead.

Well, if you push off as blatantly as THAT was, you're going to get called for a foul no matter how exaggerated the response.

That was just a brain-dead "we have to score twice quickly, so get out of my way" panic move. That was going to get called 99% of the time, even on the home team.

Well, Dang.

Oregon did NOT deserve to win this game. But then, UNC really didn't either - another one of those teams that's in the Top Ten by attrition, imo. I mean, they REALLY didn't look like a team that's gonna fare well in the ACC.

I thought the Ducks showed some brilliant offensive skills. And yah....Vanslooten > Isai, especially if you've seen all their games. Now, I think all 3 of their freshmen that played are awesome, but GVS is playing way above her class, imo.

Kyei IS a project with a good upside; I agree, Kelly should have had her in there more - when she wasn't, UNC was practically scoring at will in the paint. Girl needs LOTS more FT practice, or she's destined to be the PAC's Hack-a-Shaq poster girl.

To me, the single biggest disappointment was ROGERS....I've never seen her pull so many bone-headed moves, with driving into blue walls repeatedly. She's just better than that, and hopefully, she'll learn from it. She is a HUGE asset to OR.

Then, there was THIS. These refs were losers outta some bush league. Razz
Nailing OR (who is hardly an uber-physical squad) with 24 PFs compared to 12 PFs for UNC was bullshit. I thought the refs were to make a point-of-emphasis on the flop thing - maybe that was just last season, and they're done with that now. UNC getting to the FT line 23 times was more bullshit, considering they were hacking GVS and others repeatedly, with few calls on UNC.

Yeah, the Ducks did themselves no favors the few times they DID get to the FT line - that's their second game with a shitty FT%. But obviously, the fouls called not only offered more scoring opportunity to UNC, it also curtailed minutes on key OR players.

I'd agree that Endiya was in a panic mode,- she was rattled in most of the 2nd half - but the only thing that was genuinely 'blatant' was Kelly's flop; any player in Rogers' position is going to brace off the defensive player and brush by, but Kelly sold it wisely and well. I think by then, she'd figured out the refs were her friends. Razz
Duck team chemistry seems decent, but in this post-Sabrina era, I have yet to see anybody decide to take a tight game (this was really the first of the season) on their shoulders, and DEMAND their teammates pull it together. Endiya? Te'hina? Where arrrrre you? Shocked

She's rough around the edges but the team looks better this year than they ever did with Sedona Prince as the C. And the younger Sabally was a great player but never really seemed to find chemistry with the rest of Oregon's lineup.
