South Carolina will win almost all of their games "just" because of their defense, size, and athleticism, but boy, their "offense" is dreadful and painful to watch.

Meyers has been impressive.

Gamecocks lead 32-26 at the half. South Carolina went scoreless for the final 4 minutes or so of the half - at one point they led 27-14....

After falling behind by 7, MD held SCar to 13 pts in the 2nd using a collapsing zone, daring SCar to shoot wide open 3's. SCar did just that and was 3-10 from 3 and shot 20% overall in the period. It turned what was looking like a SCar rout into a competitive game, if watching missed shots from both teams is good competition.

Apparently a transfer from Princeton. 18 ppg, 39% from three last season.

Gamecocks extend their lead to 62-43 after 3 quarters in the books. Things got a bit chippy with off-setting technicals being assessed to South Carolina's Kierra Fletcher and Maryland's Bri McDaniel, and it seemed to fire up the Gamecocks, who promptly went on a 8-0 run. Looks to be a very exciting final period of play......

The rebounding power and defense of S. Car. is overwhelming. Maybe Stanford could stay with them.

Interesting points in the game. Cardoso is definitely showing out. Cook 'n Beal, too. And of course, Boston is rockin' it....though she's not looking as totally dominant tonight as she can be.

MD needs more scoring (....for the uber-obvious statement for the evening) And I'd think they may want to diversify a bit more in their defensive repertoire.

Diamond Miller being held out must of been a game time call as she was going through the full pregame routine...

Gamecocks improve to 2-0 with the 81-56 win at Maryland.

Zia Cooke led the way with 18 pts on 4-14 shooting, but 4-9 from the 3-pt arc, and 6-7 at the free throw line, with 3 assists and 2 steals. Aliyah Boston had another double-double with 16 pts on 7-8 shooting, with 13 boards. Kamilla Cardoso added 13 pts on 6-7 shooting, with 5 rebounds. Laeticia Amihere added 10 pts on 4-9 shooting, with 8 rebounds, and Brea Beal added 9 pts on 3-7 shooting - all from the 3-pt. arc - with 8 boards, and 4 assists....

Maybe Brenda was anticipating a 20 pt loss either way and figured if she held Miller out for injury, the selection committee might forgive it when they sit down next March.

I don't see how she would have solved any of Maryland's shortcomings in this game or altered the outcome at all.
