| It is horrible to contemplate that the first post in this thread was on March 5th. Now we're on page 28 of this discussion. In 20 minutes, it will be October in New York City, where I live. Almost seven months have passed and we can't know what's ahead. Neither can Brittney Griner, sitting in a prison cell somewhere in Russia. So awful.

Part of the schtick was Putin saying "anyone can leave Russia," with the response being "somebody should tell Brittney Griner."

Not encouraging news buried in the 10th paragraph:
". . . The Associated Press and other news organizations have reported that Washington has offered to exchange Griner and Whelan for Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who is serving a 25-year sentence in the U.S. and once earned the nickname the “merchant of death.”
"The White House said it has not yet received a productive response from Russia to the offer." |

This feels very much like the White House called Russia’s bluff and they had no intention of actually trading Brit for their merchant of death.

Yeah. I have no idea why he would even say this publicly. I hope he's right but see no benefit to saying this in an interview.

This is going to sound callous but we have no leverage here and Russia knows it. We tipped our hand way too strongly and Putin knows it's more politically beneficial to him to withhold any swap to hurt Biden among his base for "not doing enough" (despite very little we can actually do).
Ugh. BG. You are in my thoughts every day and my heart aches for you and your family.
