In 1997, she returned to the ACC as the first black women’s basketball head coach in league history when she was hired at Wake Forest. She served in that role through the 2004 season.

UConn fans may recall her two seasons as an assistant under Geno Auriemma immediately following the Huskies first national title

I’ve YouTube watched some of the games from those two seasons with her on the sidelines. Then she and Geno scheduled matches once she took over at Wake. She coached LaChina Robinsin.

I sat next to Charlene at several games after she left Wake Forest. She was the nicest, kindest person ever! Just a total sweetheart. So sad to hear this news.

Surprised that not many people talked about Charlene. I recall seeing her coach at Temple and at Wake Forest. She was classy woman. The sport will miss her very much.
