They will split before 2024. IU will keep the athletic teams.

My niece is a senior on the IUPUI women's soccer team. It's a very cool place to go to college, right in the heart of downtown Indy.

So there will be an IU and a PUI? What will PUI get to keep for themselves??

This is a sad but expected state of current affairs. The Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers have always been heated in-state rivals in collegiate sports. When IUPUI was established there was hope that the joint venture between the two institutional systems would help rise both above the hate and vitriol, in a common cause for higher education. But apparently the forces of division and polarization were just too great to overcome.....

The problem is IU is the law school, and thus most of the members of the house and senate are IU grads. IU continually gets funded much higher than Purdue per student and the continued weight of that has led to the dissolution of the joint campuses as Purdue cannot afford half their upkeep with a lesser budget.

IUPFW split up in 2018 with the bulk of the school going to Purdue and the athletic teams becoming the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons of the Horizon League.
