I just saw this on Rauol's twitter feed - a GoFundMe page to help with medical and family expenses while she awaits a kidney transplant.

If everyone gives even a little bit, it adds up.

Damn, I hadn't heard about this. She is a great kid and this saddens me. I have donated and now shared that on my facebook page in hopes that others in the basketball community will donate as well. Seems like we have "gofundme" pages for everyone and everything nowadays, but this one really hit me pretty hard. I pray she can get a kidney soon.

The fact that we should even have to have a GoFundMe page for something like this is appalling.

/off my soapbox for now

Okay, I get the family expenses part, but shouldn't the school have health coverage for the student athlete?

Since they're asking for $10,000, not hundreds of thousands, I assume there is coverage for her actual care. But it sounds like her Mom had to quit or take unpaid leave to be there for her and my impression is that is what they are trying to cover. That seems legitimate to me.

Marquette put out this release today about Tori McCoy:

http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/011818aaa.html

It does answer one question for me - I wasn't sure if I could donate to the go fund me page as a Marquette booster. It says you can give money to the fund but not directly to her or her family (which I knew never to do of course).

I've seen her on the bench at most games but often not for the whole game which is understandable with what she is going through.

Continued best wishes to her as she deals with all of this.

Marquette is hosting a Donate Life night tomorrow night for their game.

Nice article from the local paper about Tori McCoy and new MU staff member Veronica Mullen who donated a kidney as part of a paired exchange program:

https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/marquette/2019/11/06/marquette-basketball-player-tori-mccoy-waiting-kidney-donation/4171753002/

I really hope a donor can be found for McCoy soon.

Great news!!!!!! She looks so healthy in the pic!

Sad that someone had to die, but thankfully they/their family did a wonderful thing.

It may not be the case that someone died or at least I didn't see anything in the article to suggest that. Since we only need one kidney to live, I'm going to imagine that the donor is alive and well just like Tori McCoy.

It's in there.

So when she was told she’d finally be receiving a new kidney from a deceased donor in Washington, she tempered her expectations until the last second.

Oh. I probably didn't want to see the word "deceased." Kudos to the donor's family and may the donor rest in peace.

I am so happy for her. I would search her name every so often to see if there were any updates.
