Lil Syl comes to mind as well.

A few years ago, a game commentator said she prefers "Sweet Syl". That's mentioned in this article with a contradictory title: Laughing

Quote:
Throughout her career in the WNBA and since she joined the Minnesota Lynx in 2015, Sylvia Fowles has earned herself the nickname “Sweet Syl” from many of her teammates and from various people around the league.

Although she can be a fierce competitor on the court, Fowles has earned that nickname due to her friendly and caring personality off of the court and in the locker room.

But during the past week of practice and in Saturday night’s win over the New York Liberty at Target Center, which snapped a four-game losing streak for Minnesota, Fowles earned herself a new nickname: “Angry Syl.”

I mean, the "Big" monikers to me are more colorful - and of course accurate since they reference the player's height in most cases. My guess is some have gotten tired of having that aspect of their being constantly highlighted - "I am more than my height." Some embrace it, while others prefer to downplay it.

BTW, Lil Syl sounds like a cute kid and not a dominant basketball player! Laughing

Not having last year's staring pg(Clarendon) and Dantas are also contributing factors.

Last season:
21 gms with Clarendon: 16-5
11 gms without Clarendon: 6-5

Reeves does not like history or math.

lil sweet angry Syl has been pretty much alone on this team, in terms of being effective. Everything else looks like a hot mess.

debatable as i believe clarendon's signing coincided with collier's return from france. media has you brainwashed as that WAS in fact the narrative last year.

Collier hopes to return before season end

"I'm going to try everything that I can to come back and be able to play with Syl," she said. "I would love to, especially for her last year. And I miss playing. I want to get back on the court. So I'm trying to prepare my body, and I'm going to do everything afterwards to prepare my body to be able to do that."

Collier is the best player on the Lynx. but let's not diminish Clarendon's contribution to the team ....10.4p/5.7a/3.1r on 52/36/78 shooting is damn good.....Minny could've used a healthy LC in Rd 1 VS Chicago.

Natalie Achonwa has been ruled out indefinitely with a right hamstring strain and Moriah Jefferson will be out indefinitely with a left quadriceps strain, the Minnesota Lynx announced.

Not surprised

Jefferson was playing very well. But just like we know the Sun rises in the east, Jefferson gets injured again.

It’s odd that they replace Jefferson with a straight center. That must be an indication that Reeve doesn’t feel Achonwa and Dantas will be back anytime soon, and they need a backup for Fowles other than Shepard.

ok end of last season, who would have guessed the Lynx and the Liberty would be in contention for the worst record in 2022?

Even though I didn't like how it went down when Syl left the Sky, I feel bad for her this year since it seems the Lynx have fallen apart. It was also hard watching her fight back tears when she watched the 2021 Playoffs.

That’s what Reeve’s trying to figure out.

She was more accomplished at the college level and, very few people remember this, she was invited to the draft ceremony.

I think Reeve was wanting more height because Shepard is like 6’2 actual and Fowles probably could use more rest.

Rookies are en vogue this year and that probably has Reeve shocked and looking at rookies more herself instead of bringing in her usual menu of crusty vets.
