Don't know that Creighton can win, but I no longer think Iowa can beat SCar if they have this much trouble against a modestly good defense and rebounding of a short five guard Creighton lineup. |

Clark might be exerting her will in this last quarter. Can Creighton break her will?

Amazing game so far - Iowa demonstrating they can be vulnerable. Credit Creighton's defense and awesome passing game. (Is undersized_post at the game??)

Gabbie Marshall deciding she will help out in the 4th.
Creighton's 5 out constant movement is huge against Czinano because she has to chase so many different people on the perimeter. Might cause her to be tired down the stretch after doing it all game.

Well. it's too bad we don't get to see any more Clark this year, but what a great performance by Creighton. Congrats to them.

Creighton did something similar to this against UConn in the regular season with a lead at half... did they learn anything from that - we will see |
A little scary for them, but it looks like they learned from that moment

Bet Bluder wishes she had kept Jensen happy at Iowa.

I'm kind of not liking Clark so much. I'm just not that impressed by her.

I don't think the problem is her, I think her supporting cast is pretty mediocre. Typical Iowa-style players.
And Bluder is still mired in 2005 while the game has evolved.

On the tournament, I think it’s easier to shut down one player.
Between Nova and now Creighton, is the Big East a little better than anyone is giving them credit for?

Five guards who know how to play above average team offense and team defense and team rebounding beat what looked, today, like a two person team.
Thanks for the memories, Big 10 . . . love, from the Big East! |

Creighton was really good at chasing offensive rebounds and when they couldn't grab it, tapping it away from an Iowa player.
Iowa's stars, Clark and Czinano both had looks at the end. Clark may have been better off doing a step back jumper though. Czinano normally seems unstoppable when she pushes the defender into the paint and then turns right or left for a close bucket. Not to be on that last one though. There was an Iowa player who rebounded her miss but I think hurried the shot and missed as well. And that was also rebounded by an Iowa player who missed but I think that was going to be after the buzzer.
The Big 10 co-champ just lost to a team third in the Big East standings but if UConn had never joined Creighton would have been the winner this year. (15-3 versus Villanova 14-4). Creighton lost two games to UConn and Villanova had one canceled and won the other.

Warnock continuing to try and shoot through an injured hand did not help Iowa either. Lindsay Whalen she is not. Iowa just needs more depth. They'll be fine.
As a Big East fan (and as a fan of a team that knocked Creighton out in a couple of key postseason moments) I'm happy that the Jays finally broke through.

I notice all the BE fans are assiduously avoiding mentioning DePaul's 31 pt blowout by Dayton.
And consider who they upset. BYU, Colorado and Iowa. It's not like they beat Baylor or UConn or AZ or the like.
I like Nova and Creighton, and hope they keep winning, but let's not get carried away.

Iowa's defense in the first quarter (especially second chance points) and then down the stretch was just not up to snuff. Creighton knew exactly how to wear down Czinano by pulling out her of the paint and making her defend ball screens at the 3 point line. I wonder if fatigue was a factor at the end of the game with several missed shots that Iowa usually takes for granted because she is normally so automatic. It didn't help that the rest of Iowa's roster had a poor shooting day, but to keep advancing in a single elimination tournament with multiple rounds, you're bound to have a cold shooting day sooner or later. When that happens, you still have to find a way to win. Iowa just didn't do that.
It's bittersweet that Jensen was the go-to player down the stretch for Creighton, but overall I'm happy on her behalf that the decision to transfer seems to have worked out well!

It wasn't one of her better shooting days, but she did so many other things well like passing and rebounding, when the rest of the roster didn't really show up in that regard. I hope you don't judge everyone by an off day.

I've been feeling that Iowa is basically a two-player team, Clark and Czinano. That cannot be sustained forever.
