14-0 SC out of gate approaching end of first
Nice showcase for ESPN.

wahoo. Howard scores!
Does anyone actually watch this? Why put this one on ESPN?
I'm over on the 7-10's which are great interesting games as opposed to this.

44-4 at halftime.
Howard managed to score a whopping 2 points in each QTR.

Howard gets the first bucket of the second half. Start of an All Time comeback?

Just looking at the boxscore, I see she actually played some bodies I've never heard of before.
It's really embarrassing for the women's tournament. You wouldn't see a game like this on the men's side.

But this has been a commonality for the WBB side, for quite some time. Not exclusive to just the overall #1 Seed of each tournament, but using Connecticut as an example - because they've probably been the overall #1 more often in recent years than any other program - their 1st-Round games have been just as embarrassing as this one:
20-21: High Point - 102-59
19-20: No NCAAT
18-19: Towson - 110-61
17-18: Saint Francis - 140-52
16-17: Albany - 116-55
15-16: Robert Morris - 101-49
14-15: St. Francis - 89-33
13-14: Prairie View A&M - 87-44
12-13: Idaho - 105-37
11-12: Prairie View A&M - 83-47
That's an average score of 103.67 - 48.56, or a MOV of 55.11. USC's MOV today was 58, so not all that far off. I'm sure other #1 Seeded teams in the WBB's NCAAT can put up similar 1st-Round margins. And while CT is the more offensive-minded program traditionally under Auriemma, so they have all those 100+ point games, South Carolina is the more defensive minded under Staley, so you get the low-scoring output from Howard......

Oh, that game against the Red Flash was infamous! St. Francis PA under Joe Haigh ran a high-paced, what even is defense, style and they were going to run it until they died. People screamed about it at the time. Fun to watch when they were going against their peers, but they were primed to be exploited by a good UConn team ("good UConn team" being used here in the context of "good by the standards set by UConn", not as an understatement re: UConn)

These games are so cruel. Maybe they should let the 15 and 16 seeds play each other for play-ins too.

This is not in the best interest of WBB. I wonder how many teams the WBCA and different women's bb coaches would choose to have in the tourney if it were up to them.

My guess is it wouldn't be a smaller number

Maybe they'd do a different configuration. That was my point. What SC did to Howard and Stanford did to Montana State is cruel and just not right.
