I was just thinking about how good we have it in basketball here at Michigan with KBA (Kim Barnes Arico) & Juwan (Howard). Marquette has it good too with Duffy and Shaka. These coaches not only know the game and are great coaches but seem to also develop great relationships with their student athletes off the court. What are some other great duos of coaches who not only get results on the court but invest in the students off the court?

Sue Semrau and Leonard Hamilton at FSU would be near the top of such a list for sure

From the past...

Gail G and Coach K at Duke.

Geno and Jim Calhoun had 10 NCAA titles between them during the years they were at UConn together. I'd guess that's a record.

Gonzaga seems to be in good shape with Mark Few on the men's side and Lisa Fortier continuing the great program that Graves built on the women's side.

Interesting that Smart got run out of Texas where he just couldn't seem to get it done. He was thrown a lifeline by Marquette. Hopefully he can build that program back up to a consistent Top 25 team and challenger to Villanova.

Gamecock Nation is not sure just what we have - of course, Dawn Staley for WBB is as good as anyone can hope for. No questions there. Frank Martin can be argued as being our best MBB HC since Frank Maguire, and that's saying something as that's a long time ago. He took our team to our program's only Final Four.

But he also did little to nothing on the development of the program on the heels of that FF showing, especially on the recruiting trail. Martin is a tough coach to play for - he's all defense all of the time, and loves to show off during games by screaming and cursing at his players when they make mistakes, where during practices he hardly ever does that. So it has never been a great look for him in front of the fanbase - most feel he does all that nonsense just because he has a large crowd and possibly television cameras watching him.

But he's also taken the MBB program to multiple winning conference seasons, and always seems to be on the precipice of taking the program back to the NCAAT, so he's hung on for a while, and is creeping towards becoming our all-time winning-est MBB coach. An awful lot of "meh" there, for his part.....

In terms of building relationships, it seems like it was more CD than Geno, though players over the years speak highly of Geno.
