Not to mention the 3 that Connecticut were gifted from the line on the consecutive plays before that. It completely changed the rhythm of the game.

Whatever I am just a bitter fan lol.

The Merc just need to bury every Kia they have. Don't even let the employees drive an Optima.

Frustrating loss but overall a respectable performance.

BG gave the MVP caliber performance tonight but will it mean much w/o the win?

I was just thinking about how nice a guard rotation of Skylar, Diana, Healthy Bria, Peddy, and Sophia will be..

Kia took about three shots in a row at the end there, where the ball didn't even touch Brit or Skylar..like..come on Kia..you know better.

With a win tonight Jones probably seals the deal.

Not that she was their MVP in this game but she is the catalyst of what is easily the strongest team in the league.

Nobody else is really in the conversation for MVP right now.

Best player in the world? That’s a different discussion. Because to me that’s clearly Griner.

I usually don't read the thread for Mercury games because y'all seem to whine and complain continuously. It is interesting though - it doesn't seem to matter if you're winning or losing, whining still happens, especially about the refs. And while there is a bit of whining in other threads, it doesn't seem to be as predictable and continual as it is for the Merc fans. So congratulations, I crown you as the gold standard for whiners. Yeah, the team being #1 on the standings is certainly a handy tie-breaker for voters who are otherwise on the fence
Strictly on individual play I think either are worthy winners

Again, PHX didn’t extend Cunningham. Now she can sign to the highest bidder.

Thank you!

I do get easily worked up but that’s in part due to the fact that I don’t have a community at home of WNBA people. This is the only outlet really to discuss the games. So I will usually share all my comments and I need to work on that haha.

Maybe there’s a pattern of Diana Taurasi fans channeling the emotion she plays with in the way that we root for/support the team? 👀

Theory could have some merit if the general level of X Factor whining took a significant jump around the time Skylar came to Phoenix

This is lacking the balance of a normal Mercury thread so far, so while it has been a pretty good quality and competitive game so far, I'll also add:
- this is trash
- the ref calls are trash
- Brondello is trash
- Mercury defence is trash
- BG needs to get a touch on literally every possession
- Certain players need to take a seat
- Something about Kia that is unclear about whether it is aimed at Nurse or Vaughn

Those comments mainly come from the poster who is currently at the game.😎

1st let me say that Phoenix is a beautiful beautiful place. I can't wait to come again.

Now to the game.

The refs were so horribly biased that we booed the entire game.
BG with 2 free throws but she took a ton of contact, from Jonquel specifically.
At 1 point, she looked at me when I yelled at the refs and shook her head to agree.
Bria's 3 being waved off was the trashest mess I ever saw. Especially when she should've had a 4 pt play or had 3 free throws.
Kia Vaughan needs to go.
Kia Nurse and those last shots can get a pass (today) because I saw her play defense for her life.
Skylar needs to be sat down and asked wtf is going on with her. Brian and Thomas didn't even need to guard hard on her because she was not present.
Stop giving her a pass when YALL put her in the MVP conversation and was ranking her HIGHER than BG!
Peddy is a keeper and arguably was the best guard for Phoenix offensively.

Sandy Brondello can go. How do you not call a time out when it's 3 something left in the game and Kia and Skylar are playing hot potato with the ball like they are confused.?
BG went a while without touches, despite battling for position, and then you go to her when its seconds left.
Pack her up!

This reminds me of an old Saturday Night Live skit.😁

BG put on a show!
The THREE!
The DUNK!
The BLOCKS!
The POINTS!
The REBOUNDS!

I couldn't have asked for a better game to attend in person. I would've liked a win but it is what it is.

Jones can be the league's MVP but IDGAF what anyone says, BG is the best player in the world and in the WNBA.
She proved it tonight and if they would've kept going to her, she would've had 30 plus.

Briana Turner is a Defensive Player of the Year Candidate! Stop playing in her face! She had Jonquel in a chokehold with her defense! <- That's yalls MVP though.

Yes. BG is playing. I will be at this 1.

Yas. Have fun! Seeing her dunk in person in NY was the highlight of my W fandom. Hope she puts on a show for you!

BG showed out and I can't be mad.

Again, PHX didn’t extend Cunningham. Now she can sign to the highest bidder.

Phx can still offer her a contract though, right?

I’m thinking they will try to keep her. I’m not fully sure what the length of everyone else’s are but I’d imagine Vaughn, Smith and maybe even Walker are goners. That should free you some money for Sophie.

I would sort of appreciate it if commentators didn't treat every BG dunk like they were birdwatchers who'd just seen a California condor go by. I get that in the macro sense, she's unique in her ability to dunk in the flow of the game. But on the other hand, the one in this game was part of the flow of the game, the right shot at the right time. Like, do they wax lyrical about the number of spinning reverse lay-ups SDS has hit in her career?

Tbh, the dunk in this game was the first one I really liked.

Like, girl hit a three the play before, and came down and dunked it in a half court play. It wasn’t break away stuff - and the three before it made her unique to most players. It was just a “damn Brit” moment.
