Tryout roster announced as they have to do a regular sized tryout instead of their usual giant open tryout:

Sue Phillips was brought back last week to take charge of this group as she was the last successful high school coach at this level:

Assuming she gets this whole cycle and wins the game, I could see her taking on the position longer just like Don Showalter was permanent coach on the boys' side for U16 and U17.

She coaches one of the largest high schools in California and they lost their sectional playoff last week to a much smaller one. It was mostly a wink and a nod to ClayK, who often tries to reason with the people on the Norcalpreps board.

The high school/club world is a small one, and even though Sue Phillips' record is pretty spectacular, there are a couple people who criticize her relentlessly.

Her team went 2 for 10 from the free-throw line and lost by two to another private school that also makes it very easy for talented basketball players to attend.

Their tournament in Mexico starts on Monday. Games are supposed to be on YouTube, but at last check, FIBA has not added the links to their channel yet.

A very easy tournament for the team with no challenges. It was a little tougher for the boys who at least had to play hard the entire game in the semifinal and final.

There had been hopes that the U17 tournament that had been scheduled for last year would be moved to this fall, but that does not seem too likely right now.
