USA dominated the opening minutes, taking a 20-4 lead. Spain pulled back to 6 points (33-27) thanks to their defensive ball pressure forcing a bunch of USA turnovers and/or just empty possessions on offense. Paopao and Fudd were making a bunch of lazy passes. In addition, USA was giving up too many offensive rebounds.

Spain's aggressive defense means USA has shot 17 FT's, and luckily they've made 16 of them! Clark having one of those games where she's pissed the refs aren't calling more fouls, so she drives straight into her defending hoping to draw contact. Laughing It's working so far.

Diamond Johnson looked really good for her minutes, but they had to take her out after a couple of ticky tacky fouls. I felt the refs started calling things tighter against USA when they took such a big lead. But when the game got closer, they started calling fouls on Spain again.

Interesting that Mali beat Russia quite handily. So now Mali plays Australia (who beat Canada though not so handily) tomorrow am, while US plays Hungary.

I thought Puoch (Aus) has played well in the bits I've seen of her and she's only just turned 17, so will be interesting to see how she progresses.

Championship game. USA leads Australia 28-26 with 3:00 left in the 2Q.
Australia's defense has looked great so far.

The announcers are commenting on the selfishness of Clark Laughing Laughing

Fudd is too good of a shooter to pass up these open shots.

Betts isn't handling the physicality well, I forgot she's a high schooler playing against older players.

I've been impressed with Close's coaching.

Paopao is the best point guard on this team.

Fudd and Citron move very well without the ball.

Johnson has some nice shake and bake moves.

Verhulst and Van Lith will be a nice tandem for Louisville.

USA wins 70-52. Offensive efficiency was atrocious but they dominated the boards and played good defense.

Clark is MVP. Citron also on all-tournament team.

That's it!

I came away from the tournament most impressed by Citron. She will definitely help Notre Dame this year.

Just looked at team USA's stats and saw that Betts averaged 11 points, almost 10 rebounds and 2 blocks in less than 17 minutes per game. That's pretty good y'all.

She impressed the hell out of me. She obviously has to get a lot stronger(as every HS player does), but she is going to be so good. Her fundamentals are outstanding, she has good footwork, and she is a good rebounder. She will dominate the paint in the Pac-12 for 4 years.

we are smiling here. Just hope she stays healthy and continues to develop in her senior year in HS.
