What's left for the US to catch China on the final day
Men's Marathon. Both have entries. Either winning would be a significant surprise.
Women's Basketball. US is favored in the final.
Boxing. Four gold left to be decided. US has fighters in two of the bouts, China has only women's middleweight.
Cycling. Doubtful that either will win any of the remaining medals here.
Women's Handball. Russia v France in the final.
Rhythmic Gymnastics. China is in the group final. US is not.
Women's Volleyball. US is in the final, but an underdog vs Brazil.
Men's Water Polo. Greece v Serbia in the final.

China has a shot at four gold medals, on the final day of competition, USA has a shot at six. China is only considered a betting favorite to win one, whereas USA is favored to win at least two... Going to go all the way down to the wire.

Have the US men's runners won any individual gold medals? If not, that has to be an embarrassing historic first. |

No. Four silver, no gold.

Pilight,
Do you have it broken down further to satisfy some musings? How many golds to certain categories. And I’m particularly interested in how many golds went to American women.

Curious how seven out of the countries in the top ten had more women than male gold medalists.

Top men's performers are more spread out among different countries, whereas top women's performers are more concentrated. Fewer countries emphasize women's sports at a broad level.

....
In hindsight, "curious" was obviously a poor choice of words. I was more throwing shade at Great Britain, France and Italy's "relative" failure to develop women's sports, in their respective countries, than I was expressing a genuine inability to understand why it was so.

It's kind of depressing to look at how lightly regarded women's sports are here and realize that most of the world is even worse.

The article says there is an exemption for athletes making <$1M. The tax is based on her endorsements totaling over $1M, plus the Olympic winnings, and any other income. I have no problem taxing someone in the $1M-plus tax bracket.
