And the most fun in coaching is to build a program. Once you're a power, then winning is not fun, just expected.

And the University of Oregon to Sacramento State University women's basketball connection continues.

Former Sac State Hornets coaches Dan Muscatell and Jamie Craighead were former Oregon Ducks assistants.

There is, of course, no indication that Mulkey wants to escape that aspect of Baylor or even disagrees with it in any way.

She's hardly in a position to do so. They pay her salary.

She could have gotten about any open job she wanted over the last 15 years.

It's like when Nicole Powell left Oregon for some random school.

Why do you speak as if he was forced to take this position. I don’t know what he was looking for in a university, and while Sacramento State doesn’t come with the prestige of some other universities, it could fulfill what he was looking for. Unless you know some other information that he would be jobless if he didn’t take this and he needed this job, why can’t it be a job he wants and fits what he desires at this moment in time.

Sounds like some of the cr@p people said when Jim Foster left wherever he was then (was it Ohio State?) to coach at Chattanooga. Like "Why would he do THAT? Go THERE, to that podunk little place?" But he did, and had quite a successful run, and had a lot of fun doing it, and in doing it, he built a pretty successful program which he turned over to Wes Moore, who ran with it until he went to NC State....and look where HE is now. So maybe hush about it?

Wes Moore built Chattanooga (15 years 1998-2013) ... Foster followed him there after he took over at NC State in 2013. Not other way around

That is so true and I think a lot of people lose sight of that. She very well may be ready for that new challenge, build LSU back up to Final Four caliber and then call it a career. Who knows?

Thank you for correcting that. I just read it and was going to do that myself as that's a big difference.

UConn hires Morgan Valley to replace Shea Ralph as assistant coach. This now opens up a head coaching position because Valley was head coach at Hartford.

.

Given the uncertainty with what has been going on at Hartford this really isn’t a surprise.

Really does have a bit of a "show me the money" feel to it. Baylor is in the process of building a new basketball arena. Kim doesn't seem to like where it's likely to be built. Wonder if that plays in as well.

Still, LSU hasn't been paying anywhere near that much for a wbb coach.

They paid Fargas $900,000/yr in her first contract. She has been making $700,000 since that time. They have the money to easily pay whatever it took, if KM is actually interested.

LSU's men's basketball coach, Will Wade, makes about $2.5 million per year. His buyout, as of April 1, 2021, would be $5.5 million.

NCAA committees have referred LSU to the IARP (Independent Accountability Resolution Process) due to an ongoing investigation concerning Wade's recruiting practices going back more than two years.

Should this panel issue a formal 'notice of allegations' to LSU, Wade will be gone. He signed an amended contract that allows LSU to fire him with cause should he be investigated for the most serious Level 1 or 2 violations, which is the type cases IARP handles.

My points?

If Wade is fired for cause, LSU will have to hire a new coach -- and likely pay more because of potential NCAA sanctions.

If LSU fires Wade without cause (similar to what Arizona did with Sean Miller who was under investigation and was subject to the NCAA's NOA), it will owe him the $5.5 million -- and will still have to pay a new coach to take over (and pay more because of potential NCAA sanctions).

Back in October 2020, the LSU athletic department said it expected to lose $80 million in revenue. LSU laid off athletic department employees, eliminated several positions in the department, made any staff making over $80,000 take a five percent salary decrease, announced no bonuses to staff and coaches for one year, and will only approve promotions, salary adjustments, and position replacements in "essential situations" through June 30, 2023.

In other words, LSU does NOT have the ability to match what Baylor is paying Kim Mulkey or to come close, without a major donor coming forward to handle the potential fallout from men’s basketball.

LSU lost revenue due to Covid. LSU can strike a check for however many millions it wants tomorrow and it will clear the bank. LSU had total revenue in 2020 of over $157 million.

Baylor currently pays Mulkey $2.27 million/yr.

Appalachian State has a job listing for 2 assistant vacancies. Their roster still lists their full staff so not sure who left, and I didn't see any App St vacancies on p. 1 but I think this means they are coming down the pipeline.

https://ncaamarket.ncaa.org/jobs/14712110/assistant-women-s-basketball-coach-2-vacancies

Oregon also has job posting for DOBO.

Got it! Will look into and keep eye on App State. DOBO at Oregon makes sense, Megan Lopez was married to Xavier so should have guessed she was going to move to CA w/ him.

Unless they already have a successor, the biggest loser might be Mark Campbell who would have likely have been a front runner.
