Kelsey Plum finished her college career with 3,527 points. She played in 139 total games over the course of her four years at Washington – that's an average of 34.75 games per year. Her career-PPG was 25.4 (greatly aided by her senior season where she averaged an astonishing 31.7 PPG).

Caitlin Clark has now completed her freshman year. She has scored 799 points at an average of 26.6 PPG thus far, having played in all 30 of Iowa's games this season.

If Clark were to maintain that exact PPG average for the rest of her college career, assuming her college career lasts the standard length of four full seasons, then she could break the record in her next 103 games (133 games total), or an average of 34 ⅓ games per season over the course of her next three seasons.

I think she out of anyone has the best chances of securing the record in four years.

Everyone else who has it in them would most likely have to do it in five years – which of course assumes they'd stay the bonus year. Those at Power-5/upper-echelon programs likely would not stick around that long, and simply opt to go pro after their four years of college are up (or sooner).

She's going to need to find 4 additional games/year (5 in one year) to do it at this same scoring pace. That sounds like a really big ask for Iowa team-wise to do.

Let's say Iowa plays one more tourney game per year (Big 10 or NCAA), her average would need to go up to 29.3 (2.7 ppg).

Or she's going to have to have a partial season like last year. NOBODY wants that.

I'm going to vote no, but reserve the right to not be surprised if she does break it.

I’m voting no out of the sheer hope that Iowa can maintain a more consistently balanced offense in the coming seasons. We need Clark’s assist numbers to stay high and turnovers lower, but breaking an individual scoring record isn’t necessarily going to translate in the win column.
