a third round pick is pretty much like trading nothing so it really doesn't matter does it?

Picks are often used to facilitate trades. For instance, the Lynx don’t have a second or third round pick in this draft. If you don’t have draft picks it can be hard to negotiate a trade because teams often don’t want to add players to the current roster but draft picks might be useful the next season. If you don’t have draft picks to trade for next season to get the player you want, get lost sucker. Take your chances on the waiver wire.

Ariel Atkins will be staying with the Mystics for awhile , note to anyone who were wishing to snatch her u in 2022 as a Restricted Free Agent

Per Rachel Galligan Winsidr:

Sources inform Winsidr
Ariel Atkins's contract has been extended to 2023 with the Washington Mystics. Is $170k in 2022, and $175k in 2023, fully protected.

I know what baseline salary Cloud will ask for. Wink

Hmm, now why am I getting a vibe from that tweet that seems to suggest that negotiations still aren’t going well? Neutral

It's more just a response to a typically random and invented Swish Appeal article. The author is also not the first person to think 'suspended - contract expired' is somehow a type of contract. I feel like it's pretty clear right there in the name that their contract has expired.

Maybe she should demand a trade to a team that has some cap space.....and willing to sign a longer deal.

Last I read in the Wash Post Emma Meesseman's indecisiveness on her return after the 2021 Summer Olympics was holding up the finalization of Natasha Cloud's new contract with the Mystics.

I'm predicting somewhere in the neighborhood of 190.5K in 2021, 196.2K in 2022, 202.1K in 2023 for Natasha Cloud, which is slightly better than the new contract the Sun did with Jasmine Thomas.

I’m predicting a one-year deal at $117K, which matches Sanders’ amount.

Cloud >Thomas > Sanders

So, if Cloud is making what Sanders is, Connecticut is being badly mismanaged.

Connecticut is badly mismanaged, but that has nothing to do with this. Wink

So far the players on suspended contracts have been signing for right around the value of their last year’s contracts. That’s why I made that prediction. Has nothing to do with how I value Cloud. I would have preferred having Cloud come to the Lynx over either McBride or Powers. PG is a very important position, as Reeve seems to have forgotten.

Aweee Thank you for everything Latoya "Laura - Pringle Sanders ! Prime example of a player who worked hard to get better . I honestly did not see WNBA potential in her at UNC but like Latta and Milly & Larkins she persevered and got better even left the W for a while and returned. One of the most consistent post defenders this last decade imo . Sad to see her go Embarassed

Seems like cap space might have spurred the retirement. They had Shey Peddy in a similar coaching/development role within the organization, and the release says that Sanders will remain with the org.

I also see they signed Plaisance to a training camp contract. My hunch is this means Plaisance will be signed as a placeholder until Meesseman returns from the post-Olympic break. This also likely frees up money needed to sign Natasha Cloud.

Could also mean that Meesseman is signing elsewhere or not coming over, of course, but I'd expect to see Cloud sign soon and then Plaisance compete for a spot until Meesseman rejoins the team.

Sanders had such a strange career. I ran similarity scores for her and the most similar player turned out to be Kiah Stokes. That sounds about right.

Congratulation LaToya on your next move in life. LaToya's playing career exemplify hard work and dedication which will serve her well throughout life.

LaToya is moving into the Mystics Player Development position which was vacated by Asjha Jones when she moved to the Mystics bench as assistant coach

so once Cloud sign on we now have

Cloud/Mitchell
Atkins/Lesley
Clark/McCall
EDD/MHA
Charles/Plaisance

Stella Johnson, Sug Sutton, Gemalos or Kang for spot 11

and maybe Meesseman after the Olympics

I wonder what happens if the Olympics are postponed again?

Seems like they first signed her as a safety net in case things didn’t work out like they wanted.

Looking good! Stella, Sug and Jackie know the system. It's nice to have them fighting for a spot and ready to play if injury occurs. Emma comes over as soon as the $$ works for her to come.

As far as the Olympics, I expect them to take place on time. Every athlete in the U.S. will be fully vaccinated by end of April. Hoping that someone steps up so all athletes around the world can be vaccinated by end of May. For one thing, getting Olympic athletes vaccinated will help overcome any vaccine anxiety remaining in any country. Having J & J is changing all the arithmetic.

Natasha, Congratulations On Your New Contract With The Mystics.

Per Kareem Copeland Washington Post:

Natasha Cloud has reached a multi-year agreement with the Washington Mystics, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. All that's left is to complete the paperwork.

Wow, I predicted Natasha's new contract will come in the range of what The Connecticut Sun signed Jasmine Thomas to a guaranteed, 3-year deal at $185k, $190k, $190k
