Apparently the newspapers are on time delay down here.

Yeah, time delay! Its very difficult for them to try and figure out if this piece of info will be of interest to the Australian sport supporting public - after all women's basketball isn't sponsored by a beer company.
The SMH is probably the worst of the 'broadsheet' papers - not that clued about the game.

I find the SMH more cluey than any of the Murdoch papers, though the Herald Sun in Melbourne is occasionally useful.

As for interest in women's basketball, yes it is pretty low. Even if they were sponsored by a beer company Rolling Eyes

That herald sun paper was the only one that had any info on BBall at all that I could find on-line when I was trying to find out about Harrower. Is that why Aussie ballers come to the US? Is the game that unpopular generally?

Basketball is only a second tier sport in Australia. There was a boom of popularity in the 1990s but that's long gone.

Australian players go to the US so they can get a free education or earn a salary while playing in a higher quality environment. Most salaries in the WNBL are low or non-existent.

Even the Black and White photographs of various players apparently are not enough to get people to go to the WNBL games.

That's just the weirdest situation, starting to create some really high quality players but they have to leave home because nobody is interested? Well, they are starting to get great reputations with WNBA clubs.

Funny because that sounds like the situation the American players were in before the WNBA. Rolling Eyes
