They played no OOC games and have only managed 6 conf games. Then a few days ago, the school put men's and women's basketball and hockey teams on pause due to escalating numbers of positive COVID tests, with no games or practices for 2 weeks.

The NCAA is going to have to step in and do something soon. Too many postponements, too many teams shutting it down...all the teams and conferences need a breather to reassess where they are and figure out how to end the season leading into postseason play. I think everyone is starting to get a pretty big feeling of frustration and a mandatory break could ease that just a bit. Let everyone get their house in order and then restart.

Xavier is now on a Covid pause for at least the third time this season. Seton Hall has to pause for now for contact tracing since they just played Xavier this weekend. These were Marquette’s next two scheduled opponents. The BE did now schedule a game Wednesday at Villanova for Marquette (they were supposed to host Seton Hall that day).

Every day I look at the EPSN list of postponements and cancellations and see way more teams, usually mid/low majors, than we have listed here. I think if all the disruptions were collected on one list, it would be stunning.

Rutgers has now postponed their game at Maryland this week. Their game against Michigan on 2/1 is postponed due to Michigan’s pause. That will mean 8 straight game postponements for Rutgers who last played on January 3rd.

Add Maine to Vermont...both athletic departments are on a 2-week pause. Evidently some positives in both spots after people with symptoms worked men's basketball games at Vermont a couple weeks ago.

Vermont’s women’s team opted out for the whole season.

I understand and saw that. My point was that 2 athletic departments in the northeast put all their teams on a 2-week pause. I figured seeing at how big that was it deserved a mention.

Not a cancellation but relevant..

Stanford's athletic teams are able to return to campus after Santa Clara County lifted the restrictions that were in place on contact sports because of the coronavirus.

Stanford's men's and women's basketball teams have been playing home games in Santa Cruz because of the ban that has been in place all season and was lifted earlier this week.

The sixth-ranked Cardinal women's team left Tuesday for three games in Washington and will return to Maples Pavilion on Feb. 5 against Colorado.

Here's one a little weird. Wahine travelled to Irvine and played on Friday. The rubber match also at Irvine for the next day is cancelled. I doubt testing is done post game Friday. 20% of Californians test positive but that's where all of Hawaii's conference opponents are.

Xavier has had additional Covid 19 issues and is postponing 3 more games and Seton Hall is postponing another game as they are still paused for contact tracing after playing Xavier right before they went on a Covid pause:

Oh poop. That game with TAMU was already a makeup game from a previous postponement. Tenn was about to embark on 5 games with ranked opponents, but at least this will give their walking wounded some time to heal. Do players have access to training and therapy facilities when they're on pause?

That's D3 only. I wonder what the status of D2 is.

Virginia and Duke were scheduled to play today. I wonder if this is the first game involving 2 schools that cancelled their seasons?

Villanova has gone on pause again due to a Covid issue within their program and postponed their next three games. Providence just played them yesterday so their next game is also postponed for contact tracing.

Sorry. I had started a new thread for this with the D3 in the title. When I decided it really wasn't worth another thread, I re-typed it here (I figured that was as easy as copy, paste and editing the caps out) and missed getting it in.

Rutgers was supposed to return tonight, but the game was postponed due to ...”conference safety protocols outlining a return to competition.”

South Florida hasn't played since January 13 but at least for now the are scheduled to resume play next week.

Rutgers hasn't played since January 3. They were supposed to return to action this week but now have postponed their return until February 7.

Canisius has opted out of the rest of the season.

https://gogriffs.com/news/2021/2/4/canisius-womens-basketball-cancels-remainder-of-2020-21-season.aspx

The Golden Griffins lost all 5 games they played, the last one on December 20 to St Peter's.

...and OregonState pauses too. It's ironic since cases in Oregon have been on a steep decline.

The MAC has postponed Eastern Michigan's next four scheduled contests. The Eagles also had their past two games postponed, so they will not play a game between January 27 and February 24.

The other team in the league to have been hit hard is Kent State, which has also had six games postponed. KSU currently leads the league in win percentage with a 4-1 mark. Everyone else has played between 10-12 games. No word from the league yet as to what the tie-breaker will be if all games cannot be made up. As it stands right now, Kent State would be awarded the #1 tournament seed.
