It's kind of a handy year to take the punishment isn't it? ie When we have no idea if post season will happen and in what format. also a year when OhSU is probably not going to be there anyway. But I also feel like it unfairly punishes the kids who have gone there in good faith and done nothing wrong.

Exactly. He sexually harassed the players, and now they're being punished. WTH?

I wouldn't be surprised if some players transfer out over this.

Some have, they had 2 leave last year. Not sure if it had anything to do with the coach. Not sure if the ban will make a difference. It's to late to transfer for that.

The players should not be punished over the coach's sexual harassment of them. That's just WRONG!

You would think NCAA wouldn’t have had to require OSU to self-impose given the unknowns. In 2011, following the tattoo gate football scandal that came to light during that spring, Athletic Director Gene Smith decided not to self-impose a post season ban when OSU was having a tough year d/t to player suspensions and the loss of the head coach. Smith didn’t think the NCAA would impose one. There was plenty of chatter at the time this was a bad decision, i.e. with the team not doing well, this was exactly the year to self-impose. OSU finished the regular season 6-6, and lost to then 6-6 FL in the Gator game. It was an interesting match-up of mediocre teams for the Bowl organizers, since it had been announced Meyer had taken the head coaching job at OSU for the next season. Otherwise, who knows if OSU would have received a bowl bid.

Football team went 12-0 in Meyer’s first year, but the NCAA imposed a post-season ban, so the team could not play for the conference championship and lost a shot at national championship. Apparently Smith learned nothing from tattoo gate.
