Who is likely to be the next Dallas Wings head coach?
I just nominated 19 current WNBA assistant coaches and added the “other” option.
40-day poll

This is from last January. At 19:25 you can hear Thibault talking about his son.

young roster = young coach (Thibault)... easier to relate to each other, etc.

Mike says that Eric turned down a job “the year before”. If this interview took place in January 2020, then we’re talking about the 2019 season. The three teams with new coaches that year were LA (Fisher), Chicago (Wade), and Dallas (Agler). So, it’s theoretically possible that Eric Thibault already said no to Dallas two years ago. Not that Eric can’t change his mind, but it sure sounds like he's being set-up to take over for Mike in Washington.

Im only saying this to get rid of bad juju being casted upon my team so.....It wasn't Dallas . I wouldn't mind Agler's son at this point if were talking offspring .

However, this is the second consecutive season where Thibault has interviewed for head coaching jobs. After the 2018 season, he interviewed for the Dallas Wings position which ultimately went to Brian Agler. Since he is young, it’s inevitable that he will likely take a head coaching position sooner rather than later.
That puts the Mystics — and Monumental Basketball — in a bind on how to keep both Eric and his father Mike, the team’s current General Manager and Head Coach.
One of the simpler scenarios is that Eric could be officially named the “head coach-in-waiting” where Mike agrees to retire after one or two years as the head coach. After that time, Eric would become the head coach, while Mike remains the GM. |
Seems like a Eric might be going on these interviews and “turning them down” to force his dad’s hand to step down. But I’m a little skeptical about going to interviews just to turn them down. More than likely he’s the one getting turned down.

Sounds like from the clip that Thibault would rather step down as head coach and let his son take over than let him go to another team. Of course he’d always be looking over his shoulder as a GM.
Not sure why Thibault cares so much if his son goes somewhere else or not. He doesn’t own the team. Let him see if he can stand up on his own. Look where all the nepotism got Trump (he’s got a son named Eric too).
