Kennesaw State head coach Agnus Berenato is taking a medical leave of absence. Khadija Head will be the interim head coach.

On Sept. 28, 2019, Kennesaw State women's basketball head coach Agnus Berenato announced she was starting her battle with Breast Cancer, and now the 33-year coaching veteran is taking a leave of absence to continue her fight after a recent surgery.
"I am very confident in my doctors, surgeons and support team," said Berenato who had successful surgery on Oct. 1 and is now home recovering. |

I did not realize that Berenato was still coaching. In my head, she was older than she actually is.

Syracuse hired an assistant in August. https://cuse.com/news/2020/8/18/john-marcum-joins-womens-basketball-staff.aspx
Nevermind, I see this was already listed, but Syracuse is still listed as having an open assistant spot on page 1. Their roster lists Vonn Read as associate head coach and Cedric Solice as assistant coach. Is one of these temporary until they hire another new assistant?

Solice has been on staff for years and has always filled in at AC each time they have had movement. He is typically their DOBO and has always gone back to that role. He may be AC but just assumed they may hire another AC and he would go back to DOBO. Could be wrong, but if they keep as AC then they would have a DOBO spot open.

Understood. As the point person for compiling these lists each season, could you provide some context to the figures on page 1 of this thread? Is this a lot more openings than usual now that the season is almost here, or is this about the norm? With many schools having less funding, can we assume any job unfilled this late is just not going to be filled this year, or will a lot of these positions end up being filled before the first game?

A handful of jobs go unfilled or get filled/announced super late each year. This year is definitely unusual. I feel like a bunch may not get filled and other current staff members will fill duties that way new salaries are not obtained by the institution. I feel like some will be tabled until next year and will come back (barring another year of craziness). I could see the AC positions being filled before support staff roles.

Given the huge losses schools are facing, not filling positions seems like a financially prudent move.

The status of head coach Karen Barefoot remains murky as the UNCW women’s basketball team gears up for the start of the upcoming college basketball season. |

Wow, that seems like a very bizarre situation. She is our head coach, but not really. This other person is an asst coach but also our interim head coach. I am very curious as to what on earth is happening there.

Maybe she decided to take time away due to the pandemic, or she or a family member have a serious illness, or some other personal issue.

Pretty bizarre. Barefoot was fired from ODU for basically effing up their program and hasn't done all that much at UNCW. She did okay in her first year because she brought some transfers, but her recruiting, well.... And Martin was forced out at Delaware, not so much for her record as for her, um, player policies. I certainly wouldn't want my kid playing for either of them.
