So, to recap, Seattle had this game in a stranglehold, and then Kloppenburg decided, "You know what'll really set this off? Let's let run the offense through Alysha Clark!"

Storm need to get back to Stewie and Loyd. They got us the lead in the first place

Which would have been fine if she made half those wide-open shots.

Vegas has got to find some option other than Jackie Young defending Breanna Stewart

Swords is too slow footed, Cannon can’t guard without fouling, Wilson doesn’t have the foot speed. Laughing

No Hamby has the Aces somewhat fucked on both ends, especially defensively. At least you could hide Wilson on Howard.

Alysha Clark's career scoring high is 23. Her career high in field goal attempts is 14. I feel like that was a predictable result of running the offense through her, whether she was open, or not.

Or, to put it another way, Breanna Stewart was on the court for that entire sequence: every shot that Clark took was a shot that Stewart didn't, and that's rarely ever a good idea.

Should have gotten Stewart the record... Exclamation

Also would have given me the fantasy sweep, because I picked Breanna to lead everyone in 3's made! She's currently tied with McCoughtry.. Razz

Smart move by Seattle. The Clark talk has got a little OTT in the last month so it was wise of them to give her a reality check ahead of those upcoming contract negotiations Wink

Much easier to joke about when it doesn't cost a finals game, of course.

I know you don't really think it was a Coach's Decision to run plays for Clark. In the Storm offense, if you're a shooter and you have a wide-open shot you take it, and Clark is a good enough shooter that no one expects her to pass those up.

There have been seven previous occasions where a team won Game 1 of the finals by 13 or more points. Six of those times, that team went on to win the series. I'm sure Bill Laimbeer remembers the exception, when the Monarchs blew out his Shock by 24 in 2006.

Felt bad for Clark. Couldn't hit the broad side of the barn, as we country folks say. Not like her.

A'ja was pretty terrible too, missing lots and lots of open shots she normally makes. And she didn't have enough support to make up for it.

All season long LV has focused more on transition defense than offensive rebounding, but with Swords getting Hamby's minutes, the focus shifted early in the game. LV got offensive rebound after offensive rebound but Seattle quickly adjusted by longing for quick, long outlets, the best counter to a team focused on offensive rebounds.

And the Aces also took full advantage of Jordin Canada, who was a -18 in 11 minutes.

Bottom line: Seattle won with Alysha Clark playing badly and Stewart going off. Presumably Clark plays better and Stewart cools off, but that would still put Seattle in a good spot.
