Make or miss, her defense in the 4th gave the Mercury the opportunity. Good for her!

Well, it was basically a formality, but for the 18th straight year, there will be no repeat champion.

I don’t want to hear any more shit about how players shouldn’t keep getting opportunities in this league. Great moment for Peddy.

When only a three can win the game, I wouldn't help away from people parked at the three point line.

Shoutout the the Mercury bench. Sophie and Tor were basically put in the dog house and their attitudes were amazing.

If I'm a Merc fan, I have the 4th quarter on repeat for the next 40-odd hours or so. Just a 1st-round game but somehow an instant classic.

You gotta be happy for Shey Peddy! She just can't stop smiling.

Wow, the Mystics are really going to lose this shit?

They might not!! Shocked

Idk who I a Storm fan should root for. I generally like the Mystics-Sparks matchup better (looking for a Sparks loss) than a Sun-Sparks matchup this year but the Mystics just beat the Sparks last week, so I don't think it'll happen again...

As a Storm fan you should not be worried about either of these 2

I'm worried about the Sparks lmao. 🙃

Yeah, I shoulda actually read that. I don't like your chances either way but I think you got the slightly better result tonight.

Defense getting the Phoenix Mercury back into a game? Just 2020 tings....

True Laughing but to be fair, the game had really good 3PT shooting pretty much the whole way through! Very entertaining from start to finish, cuz even when the Merc was losing big, we were all waiting for Taurasi to start that run (and boy, did she, to the tune of 17-0!)

All good, & yeah I tend to think the better result tonight happened as well, so long as the Sparks don't hold a grudge against the Sun for that semifinals dredging they got last year. Embarassed

That was so much fun. I guess I’m getting old because I feel like I have a hangover after the end of that game?

Turner really was such a difference maker when we went on our run, blocking everything Washington put up for a few possessions.

Cunningham and SWK really brought energy from the bench. And Vaughn, even though she was a walking dumpster fire the last two minutes, made some key baskets.

Peddy was a difference maker early on with her defense and that shot...WOW

The big change to me happened when Sandy put Peddy on Mitchell instead of Diggins-Smith. Mitchell was still able to get a few open looks, but not nearly as many. Also, that strip of Emma was dirty (but then Emma’s pick off of the pass to Taurasi evened that out).

The foul on Turner that led to Mitchell’s 3, I never did see or understand that one.

Who would have thought that’s how the 4th would go.

That will lead to some interesting matchups in the next round.

Never forget if FLB makes both free throws this game goes to OT. Anyone else notice how PHX got two magical extra timeouts in the 4th Qtr after showing they had zero left?

Some Shey Peddy goodness, courtesy of Lindsay Gibbs on Twitter

Quote:
(tweeted in July)
Let's talk Shey Peddy:
-drafted 23rd overall in 2012
-cut from Sky camp in '12
-invited to Mystics training camp in '13; cut before season
-invited to Mystics camp in '19; cut before season
-signed as a replacement player when Emma and Kim went to Eurobasket in in 2019
-made her WNBA debut at age 30
-for a month, mainly a practice and garbage time player for Mystics
-when Emma and Kim came back, she was cut again
-coach T signed Peddy as an assistant coach
-won WNBA championship as a coach, an absolute dream come true
-Coach T called her about a month ago, knowing she was coming to ring ceremony
-Coach T asked if she wanted to join them for the summer
-She assumed he meant as a coach
-He meant as one of 10 players in the #wubble, she'd get significant minutes
Quote:
(tweeted tonight)
the mystics cut shey peddy to open up roster space to sign stella johnson for the season,
planned to re-sign her when she cleared waivers.
she knew that.
she did clear waivers. but phoenix offered a 7-day contract, and she decided to go with them over the mystics.
of course, stella ended up getting injured and was barely able to play for the mystics at all.
and shey -- who probably wouldn't be close to the wnba right now if not for mike thibault -- ends up eliminating the mystics from the playoffs.

this sport is beautiful and it is cruel.
