Clarendon has a herniated disk. Hopkins said he doesn't know if she can play or not, but there's no reason to take the risk. She's done for the year.

Nah, I need them to play spoiler tomorrow, or at least threaten to play spoiler: Maximum Chaos, for the 8th seed.

Trying to compare the Liberty talent this year to an expansion team. An expansion team has around eleven #7-in-the-rotation players and a first round pick (Atlanta got #4 pick). Zahui, Stokes and Clarendon are around that #7 level. Nurse is above it (all-star last year) and they had a #1 draft pick (injured most if the season). But the rest of the team could be below #-7-in-the-rotation level. Wondering how many Liberty rookies were considered to have played better than Zahui, Clarendon and Stokes this year .

Expansion teams don’t usually have seven rookies. It is reasonable to expect the Liberty to be worse than an expansion team. However, is that a measurement of “talent?” I think the word is used too loosely around here. Fans love to make snap judgments -- this player is good, that player sucks. The vast majority of WNBA players are better in their second year than in their first. Similarly, most players are more effective in their third year than in their second. So, did these individuals improve talent-wise? No. They are inherently the same people, but their performance level changed. The players are more skilled, more knowledgeable, and more confident. People may also receive opportunities that weren’t available previously or they're assigned roles better suited to their skill set. Look at Myisha Hines-Allen and Betnijah Laney. Are they more talented this year than they were last season or is it some combination of improvement, experience, and opportunity?

Usually, I think it’s a combo of all but sometimes there are interesting circumstances.
Natasha Howard? Showed glimpses of talent, just needed needed minutes.
Kahleah Copper? Showed glimpses of talent, needed consistent minutes but also improved on consistency from three.
Betnijah Laney? Unless a Fever fan objects, I’ve never seen Laney look like a starting wing, let alone a good player, and she played 26 MPG last season. I’m going with improvement.
Hines-Allen? Somewhat hard to gauge because she was playing behind a deep front court in Delle Donne/Messeman/Sanders/Hawkins. But Thibault doesn’t strike me as a coach that doesn’t figure out a way to get good talent on the floor regardless.._________________

I am referring to how good a Liberty player is on the basketball court this season, regardless of potential for playing better in future seasons. Just trying to see where New York fits with regard to previous expansion teams (or teams like the 2010 Shock or 2011 Mystics who lost a number of starters from the previous year) with regard to the "current quality/ability of their players" that they put on the court this season.
Speaking of Hines-Allen, I was thinking today during the game that we probably wouldn't know how good she was if Delle Donne and Latoya Sanders had played this year.
