One more indication that we may not have sports for a while. California has cancelled all high school sports for at least 3 months. This follows Texas delaying football practice until September 7.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts has tentatively set September 14th as the first day of fall sports.

Which is fabulously hilarious considering they might not even have in-session school by that point.

Actually California did not cancel any sports -- they will all be played, assuming a change in circumstances, starting Jan. 1. There will be two seasons, with football and volleyball in the first one (among others), and basketball, soccer and softball in the second.

Given California's federation system, some schools will be able to begin basketball practice in mid-December, others not until March.

Oh, and one of the ten sections, the Northern Section with mainly rural populations that have not been affected much by the virus, will use the traditional calendar.
