Lynx guard Shenise Johnson back after long battle with knee injuries
https://www.mitchellrepublic.com/sports/basketball/6581473-Lynx-guard-Shenise-Johnson-back-after-long-battle-with-knee-injuries
Quote: |
“She’s going to have to bring a lot,” Lynx coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve said. “She’s probably going to be our primary initiator. She’s probably going to be the one that handles that the most.” |
That’ll be interesting. Banham and Brown most not be stepping up enough to fill that role.
Quote: |
“She’s got size. So I really like a bigger guard that can be versatile, and she’s been that. I told her she’ll play multiple positions for us, but the one that’s of the most value will probably be being the initiator and what we can do with her from that spot.” |
Reeve likes size, so she drafts the smallest PG maybe ever? Wasted pick?
Quote: |
Johnson provides the Lynx a veteran option to rely on, which is particularly valuable in a shortened, compact season. Still, Johnson said she’s learning more from her teammates.
Reeve said the guard’s versatility — with the ability to post up, defend, rebound and pass — “is going to prove really valuable for us.” |

Sorry 'bout it... the Lynx's guard rotation is a dumpster fire. Even if Johnson is 100, she's not gonna bring anything near what Sims brought last year. And whoever their second best guard is, they're not going to bring Danielle Robinson's play-making or defense.
Fowles is still one of the best centers in the world, and Napheesa Collier is an incredible off-ball scorer. But both of them need guards that can consistently get them the ball when they are in those situations. I don't think the Lynx have that player.
It's going to be VERY difficult for this team to outscore anyone, so their defense better be DOPE.

The Lynx' guard rotation is sad looking if Johnson is their best option. I doubt she's back 100%. Her last good season was in 2016. There's also still no mention if Sims ever plans to show up.

Players Lost: Seimone Augustus signed as a free agent with Los Angeles; Danielle Robinson signed as a free agent with Las Vegas; Odyssey Sims is out for the season following childbirth; Jessica Shepard and Cecilia Zandalasini have chosen not to play in 2020 for personal reasons |
And according to the roster, Sims is not on the team:

But of course, the W site could be wrong.

Didn't think she would play, but nice to have official status.

That isn't 'official status'. Surely you guys know better than to believe a WNBA.com preview by now? |

Yeah I don’t consider it ‘official’.
Just read it and shared. Maybe they heard something we haven’t, or maybe they made an assumption. Neither would surprise me lol.
Would be nice and official coming from Reeve or Sims.

The season is so short, and so little time between games, she also has a 2 game suspension to serve and then is the quarantine to deal with. She has no training camp and would be coming back from pregnancy. There about 3 games a week. So if she misses more than a 2-3 weeks of the season it is pretty hard to see how she would make a big difference anyway. Of course, the Lynx guards are really that bad, I suppose she couldn't be any worse.

The Lynx guards were overrated last year (though, to be fair, it wouldn't be a surprise if D-Rob is back to being a superstar and leads her team to at least the Finals now that she's no longer stuck being on the Lynx) and are underrated this year.

I agree that given the circumstances there's every chance that she ultimately doesn't play. But it's not her current status, and at various points she's definitely indicated that she's preparing and hoping to play. So it's annoyingly typical misinformation from an article on the league's official website. |

Lynx scrimmage defending champion Washington as Cheryl Reeve seeks more 'accountability'
https://m.startribune.com/lynx-scrimmage-mystics-as-cheryl-reeve-seeks-more-accountability-wnba/571847441/
Quote: |
The Lynx, with more shooters on the floor, figure to use the pick and roll often. “It’s probably been our best offense,’’ Reeve said. “We’ve spent a lot of time on it. And it’s not just about two players. The pick and roll is about getting all five players opportunities. I would say it has generated our best offense. And we have some versatility with who’s in the pick and roll.’’ |
If you wanted to be a pick and roll team, why not draft the pick and roll specialist at #6?
Quote: |
Reeve reiterated what she has said from the beginning, saying guard Odyssey Sims – who gave birth to a son in early April – is expected to join the team at some point this season. “We’ve been in touch with Odyssey,’’ Reeve said of Sims, who made her first All Star Game appearance last summer. “There is a plan for Odyssey to be here.’’ |
Quote: |
Reeve said the team’s rebounding needs to improve. “Being an elite rebounding team is always our goal,’’ she said. “I’m not sure we’ve touched that yet. You can win a lot of games [rebounding well]. If you don’t you only win sometimes. And being average stinks.’’ |
Again, you value rebounding, but you pick up the worst rebounding “post player” in the draft at #6.

Sims joining at some point is interesting. She'd have to go under the quarantine protocol first. Maybe she arrives in August and plays by the end of that month?

I've always loved MoMo's game. Hope she's back and does well.

Does Sims get to serve her 2 game suspension, if anybody still remembers about it, while in quarantine?

That would defeat the purpose of a two game suspension, which is supposed to act as a deterrent to the bad behavior.

As someone who knows nothing about the rules and is too lazy too look it up, wouldn't she lose 2 games worth of pay?

Yes, that would make sense.

She should do like the men do, and announce her return two games before she was actually intending to come back. That way, she serves her suspension during two games that she wasn't going to play, anyway.
