These days, what percentage of the top 25 high school WBB recruits each year place significant _positive_ value on the academic reputation (and presumably academic challenge) of the school they are going to? They play basketball year round in high school. In my day that would have given them the label “jocks”. Does Duke get top recruits on the men side for their academics or for their winning tradition with Sheshefsky?

I think a better comparison is Stanford (or at least Duke would like to be considered as academically strong as Stanford) ...
The considerably less money in women's basketball means the quality of the degree and the connections it brings are more valuable for women than men.

And like Stanford, Duke's reputation as a national power is based on one great coach.

So I went to Wikipedia and started preparing a post to show how times have changed in WBB with a much bigger talent pool and Stanford is no longer at the top with all the state schools. But as it turns out, Stanford, while not winning a title since 1992 (the other in 1990) has had arguably more success since 2008 than ever in terms of the Final Four (5 Final Four semi-finals and 2 Finals). And this after a dry spell from 1998 to 2007 (no Final Fours).
But the game does appear to have changed in one respect from the early days - there are no longer any mid-majors at the top. From 1982 to 1989 the number of mid-majors at the Final Four was: [2,2,2,3,1,2,2,1]. From 1990 to 1999 it was [1,0,2,0,1,0,0, 1,1]. Since 2000, only Southwest Missouri State in 2001 made it to a Final Four.

Gail left Duke in April 2007. The biggest beneficiaries were Stanford and Notre Dame. After Notre Dame's 2001 title, Duke emerged as the 3rd biggest program from 2002-2007, behind UConn and Tennessee. In those six years, Duke made the Elite Eight five times, with three Final Four berths. Gail leaving and Stanford and Notre Dame reascending were not coincidental.

JMU DOBO job posted. Looks like their Video job may be open as well as Mike Karon is also no longer on website. He moved into AC role last season, but they hired Samantha Prahalis this offseason

La Tech posted an AC job. Lindsey Hicks appears to be coach that is leaving as she is no longer on Athletics Staff Directory.

Is that the Lindsey Hicks who played at Purdue years ago? I hadn't realized she was coaching?

Mitchell was an absolute disaster at UCSB -- took a middling program straight into the dumpster, from which it is still trying to climb out.

Maybe she is a better assistant?
