Here is AOC about a year ago tearing down the current healthcare system in front of this same CEO.

Including a sister-in-law and nephew. Well, actually not confirmed by testing. But they got it. Nephew was at a gathering at a friend’s house and the entire family is sick and tested positive. He’s better now but the sister-in-law is 66 And last I heard it seems to be hitting her pretty hard. And you have to wonder how many others have it who don’t get the tested. The estimate I heard yesterday is 20x the confirmed cases. That sounds about right.

Former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb comes on CNBC every day and talks about the virus. Today he mentioned that theory that 10 to x (40?) times as many people have been infected as have tested positive. He felt that 50% of Americans would have had the virus by the end of the year. If true, that would be a real testament to Americans not following recommended actions. But it would also put us pretty close to herd immunity if those people have at least a short term immunity. But then we could again allow anyone to fly in from anywhere with no testing or quarantines.

CDC says U.S. has 'way too much virus' to control pandemic as cases surge across country

"We're not in the situation of New Zealand or Singapore or Korea where a new case is rapidly identified and all the contacts are traced and people are isolated who are sick and people who are exposed are quarantined and they can keep things under control," she said in an interview with The Journal of the American Medical Association's Dr. Howard Bauchner. "We have way too much virus across the country for that right now, so it's very discouraging."

As everyone not with their heads in the sand by now know, the federal government dropped that ball waaay back in February and March, when they chose not to take the spread seriously, and chose not to mobilize at a national level manufacturing of tests, and administering of tests in a wide path across early areas of confirmed infection, like how South Korea and Singapore did.

This was a total political failing by the Trump Administration: even if claims were correct that the Obama Admin. left the federal PPE stockpile depleted after the SARS outbreak, replenishing those depleted supplies would have been seen as a positive effort on Trump's part, even IF the COVID-19 pandemic was "a hoax".

If it wasn't a hoax - as well know now - this would have been an easy and verifiable political boon for Trump for 2020, even if it didn't help much in the spread of the COVID-19. He could have been a mini-national hero, as he saw the early need to restore the stockpile and have a ready initial provision for state medical systems to rely on until they got their own supplies ramped up. How that could have been used against Trump as a negative in the 2020 campaign, I have no clue.

But Trump never acted. So too, the effort to mass-manufacture the test kits, to open federal blockades of the FDA to other labs and companies in the United States capable of making the tests once the CDC established the engineering. The millions we're actually manufacturing now, we could have been making those numbers back in March. The tracking and spread containment could have been done.

Would it have totally prevented the economic shutdown? No, but it would have minimized it to hot-spot areas, while other areas in certain states could have remained opened and contained.

And the containment could have been sufficient enough, so that when the time came to re-open, there would not have been this totally un-answered question that we're now getting an answer to: will the virus spread start back up again as a 2nd wave, and stall the re-opening again?

But all this required a federal administration that had a degree of PROaction, instead of REaction. All Trump has been, is REaction, and even that reaction was begrudgingly and haltingly, only at the last resort when most precautionary chances of mitigation was vaporized away.

Totally the opposite of leadership. Thing was, if Trump was TRULY a "stable genius" who understood the "art of the deal", he would have seen this ahead of time as it crept into the U.S. in February. Surely his staff of advisors could have seen it. It should be totally the positive campaign platform his re-election attempts would be riding into 2021, along with what degree of healthy economy his efforts salvaged.

Instead, all he has from it now, is hesitancy and accusations of standing by on the sidelines while hundreds of thousands of citizens died, and the majority of efforts being attempted by state leaders instead. And so it looks like his his chances at re-election will be one long laborious uphill struggle...

I can agree with pretty much all of that. The thing is that I think we also have to really come to terms with the fact that on many levels and in many ways we are kind of a fucked up country when it comes to being positioned to deal with certain things. This, quite obviously, was one such thing. With China and India each having over a billion people, it’s easy to forget that the US is the third most populous country on earth. It’s a very large country geographically. States are very important things in this county and we have a shitload of them. Our regional cultures vary greatly. We’re politically divided like we’ve never been before around party, race, tribe, class, religion and traditions. Financially we have so many people now as a rule living from paycheck to paycheck. Communities that used to be the thing that held America together have been decimated. I have a really hard time imagining American doing what other much smaller, much less divided countries were able to do. I don’t know how the United States ever does anything big again.

Trump failed badly on the virus. And continues to fail, holding rallies where people don't wear masks and sit right next to each other, setting a terrible example (someone finally got him to say masks were good and he would wear one in a crowd, today). But as I have said before, The Resistance also didn't act appropriately and continues to do so. Tremendous focus, outrage, time and attention from them on a mythical Russian connection, and on the Ukraine pressure to investigate the Biden’s. Global pandemic response - not so much. Imagine if there had been as much outrage recently over states "re-opening" without meeting the CDC guidelines (14 days of declining daily cases, etc.) and without the country ever getting below 20K per-day 7-day daily average new cases, as with the Trump campaign allegedly having ties to Russia. Although, the bigger issue to decry and report and investigate is probably that we couldn’t get a good decline “closed”. Europe went up and came down. We went up, came down a little and plateaued. We do have some states whose case graph looks like Europe (way up and then way down), notably the hardest hit New York and New Jersey.

'We need to live with it': White House readies new message for the nation on coronavirus
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1232884

Quote:
After several months of mixed messages on the coronavirus pandemic, the White House is settling on a new one: Learn to live with it.

Quote:
At the crux of the message, officials said, is a recognition by the White House that the virus is not going away any time soon — and will be around through the November election.

McConnell's Wife's Family Business Appears on Trump Admin's List of Companies That Received Most PPP Money
https://www.newsweek.com/mcconnells-wifes-family-business-appears-trump-admins-list-companies-that-received-most-ppp-1515788

Quote:
A shipping business started by Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao's family received at least $350,000 in loans set aside for companies struggling as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, according to data published Monday by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Quote:
Chao's relationship with the company has in the past been the subject of an ethics investigation launched by the House of Representatives after Chao assumed her role within the Trump administration in early 2017. Chao, who is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has also received criticism for possessing stocks after she said she would sell them before stepping up to lead the Department of Transportation.

According to a report by CNBC, several other companies with connections to politicians also received PPP loan amounts greater than the $100,000 average the SBA cited in its news release, including a school in New Jersey named after Trump's son-in-law and political organizations with Democratic and Republican ties.

Well, I'm back to perusing Area 51. And time away has offered no further insight as to why you might (continue to) offer such silliness as a valid rationale, pretending it's an equivalently egregious behavior that somehow mitigates Trump's horrifically ego-driven mishandling of the coronavirus. Never mind your definition of "mythical". Rolling Eyes
