Planning on watching. They really had a solid fan base, would be nice if they returned soon.

What happened to the Portland Fire. I think it is still burning and they also have lit quite a few more.

When Portland’s WNBA Team Lit Up the Rose Garden

https://www.pdxmonthly.com/news-and-city-life/2020/10/when-portlands-wnba-team-lit-up-the-rose-garden

Quote:
“It came right down to the wire, and I can remember distinctly Sue Bird [in her first year in the league] hitting a circus shot late in the game that gave them a two-basket lead before they pulled away at the end,” recalls Hargrove. “Had we been able to pull that one out and make the playoffs … I don’t know. I don’t know if things would have been any different in Portland.”

That quote by itself makes it sound like Sue Bird effectively ended the Portland Fire's existence herself. Embarassed They should bring the Fire back… as soon as she retires. Twisted Evil

Here's an article from 2003, after the Fire disbanded. Former TrailBlazers player Clyde Drexler and another businessman tried to negotiate with Fire owner Paul Allen into selling the team to them, but Allen and the team president Bob Whitsitt refused to talk to them. Sad

So, if you want to see the Portland Fire back, who should own the team? The TrailBlazers are still owned by Paul Allen's estate. I highly doubt they would want to bring them back.

Here was my two-cents on it earlier in the year: the ownership group of the MLS' Timbers and NWSL's Thorns, both highly successful in fan attendance and engagement.

I remember that game! It was incredibly incredibly loud in there....

I think we had to win something like 7 out of our last 9 games to get into the playoffs that year, and that was game 7 -- holding my breath the whole time...

Good times!

But I loved those Fire games! A bunch of fans from Portland would always come up -- great rivalry!
