Augusuts was a non-factor on the court last year, which most likely reflects that she was held back by playing for a lousy head coach on a pathetic franchise, and now that she, for the first time her career, is playing for a great head coach and a team with a winning culture, in Derek Fischer and the Sparks, she'll look like the superstar she actually is and probably win Most Improved Player.

If a player is well-past their prime/washed-up (I have no idea if Augustus is that or not, but usually if a player leaves the Lynx, that means they are a superstar in/entering their prime) then I think that's overrated. New players can become leaders.

The Lynx have several underrated players like Dantas and Lexie Brown, so they should be decent if last years' lottery teams are still at least a year away, but considering the Lynx have underachieved every year the past decaede, I don't know what to expect.

If you are going to mention McBride as a star then Loyd belongs there too tbh

Quote:
If and when the 2020 WNBA season takes place, there will be a lot of new in New York. As league rosters were trimmed down to no more than 12 players Tuesday, the Liberty stand out for keeping all six of their rookies, led by No. 1 pick Sabrina Ionescu of Oregon.

We don't know yet when we might see these teams on the court. But here's a quick look at what stands out about their rosters.

As a total ignoramus on it, can someone give me instructions on how a basement-dwellar from Minnesota is supposed to be able to bet on sports?

As of now, Phoenix & Seattle are my top 2 as it looks like they may be at full strength(no opt-outs). Vegas is questionable as we don't know if Cambage is coming over yet. Chicago is probably #3 even if Colson & Lavender opt-out. The Sparks still look good despite no Toliver(or Chiney). Mystics are still questionable based on Delle Donne's status. The rest of the field is a jumbled mess.

1. Seattle
2. Phoenix
3. Chicago
4. Los Angeles
5. Washington
6. Atlanta
7. Las Vegas
8. Indiana
9. Minnesota
10. Connecticut
11. New York
12. Dallas

I think the only way is to be in Las Vegas or Reno and go to a casino that accepts sports bets.

Power rankings are meaningless prior to the start of the season. No one knows how well teams will play until after the season starts.

There is now legalized sports betting in Iowa, including mobile wagering. While specifics vary from state to state, generally rules require that in order to make bets you must first open a wagering account in person at a casino (and deposit money), even if you are a non-resident, and then you will be able to make bets with your phone when you are in Iowa. The sports books use geolocation on your phone tp make sure you are in state.

Depending on how close you are to the border this might be an option.

Here is a link for more info

While Vegas Insider is generally a wonderful site for odds they do not a do a good job of updating futures odds. The current odds, which have been adjusted for players that have opted out, are:

Las Vegas 3/1
Washington 7/2
Seattle 4/1
Connecticut 9/2
Phoenix 13/2
Los Angeles 7/1
Chicago 20/1
Minnesota 30/1
New York 40/1
Indiana 60/1
Dallas 100/1
Atlanta 150/1

The Connecticut odds are strange, but since you cannot bet the other side there is really no risk for the sports book. The Las Vegas odds are a little lower than they should be (I believe) because of Las Vegas sports bettors.

I will be starting my 2020 WNBA betting thread in about 2 weeks once there is more information on training camps and additional opt outs.

calbearman76, what stops you from going to one of the many, many, many gambling websites that are available over here and betting on them? Do they not work from US IP addresses (although a VPN could get round that fairly easily)? Or do US credit cards not work to set up an account? Or is it literally just that you can do it but it would be illegal to do so?

Honestly intrigued by how the US gets around the fact that a huge percentage of gambling is now done online.

I don’t want this to be turned into a betting fanatics thread. Since nobody else was doing power rankings at the moment, I thought I’d post how Vegas was ranking them. If you’re obsessed with betting, make your own thread.

Voepel must have noticed me grumbling about a lack of power rankings.

https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/29388073/2020-wnba-power-rankings-seattle-storm-replace-washington-mystics-no-1

1. Seattle Storm
2 Los Angeles Sparks
3. Washington Mystics
4. Las Vegas Aces
5. Connecticut Sun
6. Phoenix Mercury
7. Chicago Sky
8. Minnesota Lynx
9. Indiana Fever
10. Atlanta Dream
11. Dallas Wings
12. New York Liberty

Finally somebody agreeing with me about NYL.
New coach, questionable system, questionable draft, 7 rookies.
Anything above last place may be the story of the year.

How are the Aces not #1? Voepel has them #4 even with her factoring in Cambage as coming over. Is she that Plum crazy?

Storm seem like a fragile team. Not sure they can keep it all together for a championship.

Losing Plum means McBride is their only proven consistent 3-point shoote, so they'll need Bentley, Rodgers, others, to step up, bounce back, etc.

The Storm still have the greatest winner in WNBA History/the GOAT in Natasha Howard, so they have to win more championships to fufill Reeve having made sure the Storm (if not every other team in the WNBA) end up with more titles than the Lynx.
